Deety is rocking a Matrix avatar, not a screencap from the underwhelming sequels.

The original remains one of the best action / sci-fi movies of all time.

I mean, there's only so much mystique one Keanu Reeves can bring to a movie before his act gets stale..

Top 3 in order:

The Godfather
Batman
LOTR

Honorable Mention:

Terminator
Matrix
Alien
Pirates of the Caribbean
Die Hard
Back to the Future

For me, in no particular order:

LOTR
Batman
Star Wars
Toy Story
Alien saga
Godfather

[act like there's a space here that reaches to the next page]

Everything else

Interesting topic. What do you think would be the top trilogies of all time? For me, this Batman and series and LOTR stand alone at the top. Star Wars and Toy Story are good too, probably 3 and 4 for me, but just not on the same level IMO.

I'm not sure what else would contend. Never really liked the Matrix. The Bourne trilogy was good, but not great...

I think a lot of trilogies suffer from having one bad apple ruin the bunch. Jurassic Park, The Mummy, Indiana Jones, The Godfather, Beverly Hills Cop... that list goes on.

On a whole, the BttF trilogy is a testament to great foresight and writing. Say what you want about the movies themselves, but to contain an entire universe centered on time traveling in a comedic film without breaking their own rules or leaving open any gaping plot holes is a feat. If the Nolan Batman movies withstand the test of time like BttF and Star Wars then I think they're easily capable of holding the title of "best trilogy ever". Toy Story is top 5 easily with LotR. One of my personal favorite trilogies, however... The Mighty Ducks

I leave you with the immortal words of Randal Graves...

"Oh, what the fuck happened to this world? There's only one trilogy you fucking morons."

That being said second place belongs to the Man With No Name (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly).

The direction, acting and fresh air in Nolan's Batman trilogy was so phenomenal that it gets into the discussion.

However I am not sure TDK is a movie I can watch eleventy billion times like LOtR, BttF or Star Wars.
