just got back from rise of the silver surfer.......movie wasn't bad. the special effects were not grade A but they were still pretty good. alba looked sexier than ever, but i'm disappointed she wasn't actually nude in her "nude" scene. she kinda acts weird in some acting parts though. plot is interesting and is unexpected, but there is definitely an opening for another sequel. overally it was good, but not great.

The lack of a clear ending in the film version of A Clockwork Orange is directly related to the source material used by Kubrick.

The Burgess novel has a final chapter in the original UK version, this was absent from the American edition from which Kubrick drew his inspiration.

The final UK version of the book would have had Alex overcoming his sociopathic tendencies, becoming a restored and productive member of society.

The version filmed by Kubrick instead cleaves to the American version, one in which you are left to draw your own conclusions. Alex is offered a pretty open government job, and is likely at heart still a sociopath. Wolf in sheepish clothing if you will.

It was in fact the US publisher that demanded the omission of the final UK chapter in Burgess' original novel. Perhaps they felt, like Kubrick, that the rosy ending offered by Burgess was too optimistic.

Watched Apocalypto on Saturday. Excellent movie, although it's plot is basically The Running Man circa 1500 w/ Mayan Indians. Still, the cinematography is gorgeous, and you have to love lines like "I made you eat tapir balls!!", and "I'm going to cut off his skin and make him watch me wear it!." The whole film is subtitled, but it doesn't matter.
