127 Hours - boring-Agreed and I also thought they played too much into that extreme kind of lifestyle, the main character was a dickwad.

You do realize it's a biographical film right?

I dunno I guess I just see non-hollywood cardboard stereotypes as being a plus rather than a negative.
The guy that this happened to in real life may have been a good guy and all but the may the way the film maker portrayed him in the movie it was like he was trying to appeal to the "extreme games" crowd. This was a nice story when I read about it in the news but IMO the film maker kind of ruined it.
Into the Wild was a movie that I thought was made really well. I'd read the book and I thought the way the character in the movie was spot on to the character in the book. I was pulling for him.

That's a pretty good portrayal of how Aron really is viewed (and arguably of how he actually behaved). He is a very polarizing figure among the outdoor sports community. A large number really do seem him as a self centered douche bag whose actions have done irreparable harm (a number of climbing & hiking areas were closed off after his accident). Aron himself views some of his past behavior as reckless (his 'epiphany' in discussed in the book and shown in the movie).

I didn't know that he was well known, I just thought he was some random schmuck.
