The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Offbeat, meandering, casually-paced comedy from Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited). Bill Murray is fine as a cross between Jacques Cousteau and Captain Nemo, but the rest of the cast, including Owen Wilson, Angelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum, just trail along in Murray's wake; Wilson was particularly disappointing, as he never really emerged as a counterpoint to Murray's passive mania (as Jason Schwartzman did in the superior Rushmore). Cate Blanchett was also solid, but she wasn't really given much to do. If you liked any of Anderson's other films, then you'll probably enjoy this one as well, but it really isn't his best effort to date. 7.0/10

Felon-Stephen Dorff is very realistic as a family guy who is convicted of voluntary manslaughter for killing a burglar, but slowly turns into a hardened con-and big time ass kicker, before Val Kilmer and Sam Shepard help him win early release and save him from the guards who bet on inmate fights they stage (this is based on true happenings at Corcoran Prison in California a few years back). One of the best, and most realistic, prison movies ever.

Disturbia- mildy entertaining, more for the gadget-teen voyeurism and hijinks than for anything the serial killer living nextdoor to Shia LeBoeuf did.

He teams up with Henry Selick(James the Giant Peach, The night Before Christmas, Life Aquatic...) for his next film. Fantastic Mr Fox, stop motion animation, due 11/09. Clooney, Blanchett, Huston, Schwartzman, Murray & Meryl Streep even will contribute voices.

I loved the book, imagine the movie will be excellent as well-Dahl's works translate well to the screen.

Happy Gilmore

One of those movies that I loved as a kid and still find hilarious.

"As a kid"?! Damn. I'm getting old. Happy Gilmore was the first movie that came to the "cheap seats" after I started there. First job. I swear I watched it about fourteen thousand times in two weeks. I also once found an empty fifth of Old Crow in "Toy Story".
