NCAA cites Kiffin for failing to monitor staff

(link)

The NCAA has charged Tennessee with at least a dozen rules violations committed by the university's basketball and football programs.

Included in the allegations after the NCAA's 22-month investigation are charges that coach Bruce Pearl acted unethically and failed to monitor compliance activities by his basketball staff. Former Volunteers football coach Lane Kiffin is also charged with failing to monitor his staff. Kiffin is now at Southern California.

The notice, which was received by Tennessee on Tuesday and released Wednesday, did not include potential sanctions. USC also received notice outlining the charges against Kiffin.

(Long story continues)
But, he seems like such a nice young man...who would have guessed?

So, will anything happen to Kiffin? Probably not, and it truly is not fair to UT if they get punished for shit that went down under that sleezeball and nothing happens to him for doing it.

Just like Calipari heading for the hills everytime he knew the NCAA was going to sanction the school so he could keep on going with his sleezy recruiting tactics elsewhere. I agree with Bob Knight that Cal should have been banned from coaching in the NCAA for taking down two schools.

The NCAA has become a freakin' joke.

This is the guy USC chose to lead their program away from it's cheating ways.

There needs to be a Stupid Clause that imposes additional sanctions for any school that does something so blatantly idiotic.

a) Have you checked out USC's recruiting class? Add that to the talent pool that didn't leave, put it in a conference where the only current competition sits in the middle of a salt marsh and where the skies are cloudy all day, and Voila! They'll be back to playing for a national championship in their own home town in no time.

b) Sorta like Terminator, they'll be back, azzhoules. Give them the kiss of death, put an NFL franchise in a new stadium, and the NCAA loses a huge
TV market and a ton of money for the product. The term, "Too big to fail," comes trippingly to the tongue.

Only competition? Check.
Cloudy all day? Understatement, but check.
Salt Marsh? WTH are you talking about?

I am presuming that you're talking about U of Oregon (Eugene) though.

It's built on a bit of high ground that rises from the estuary into the Columbia River and the Pacific. It can be very pretty during the three months of the year when the sun is in the vicinity, but mostly it's gray with an 80% chance of rain.

But the point is that USC seems to have gotten through the worst of the NCAA penalty. Kiffin's and Ogeron's troubles aside, I don't think the NCAA is going to want to do much more to them. They want that West Coast market.

I live in Oregon. I just wasn't sure where the idea of a salt marsh came from.

I'm pretty sure the brunt of the penalty will come next year and the year after as they will basically sign 15 recruits per year both years. They may have loaded up this year but it was because they counted many of them against last year's pre-sanction class.

My point would be that limited to 15 they can be very selective. Limiting USC to 15 is very different from, say, limiting SMU -- or Wazoo, or even Arizona.
