If they win I don’t care if fans of other programs give our coaches shit.

Brian Kelly didn’t win, so we didn’t like him. If he did, he’d be the coach and we’d love him despite being the most insufferable prick in the universe.

At a significantly less extreme level, this is pretty much how I feel about Urban.

As I've written before, I like LSU and have for some time. That feeling went on hiatus with the hire of Body Kount.
Regarding Lane, I'm nonchalant. We'll see what he does.
Obviously, his departure from Ole Miss could've been done differently/better. However, he's yet to do that on any of his departures.
That definitively one area of opportunity he doesn't care to improve upon.

Urban was less polarizing than lane (somehow lol) and had hardware to prove he can win at the highest levels.

Lane has proven he can win a lot of games but remains to see if he can get to that next level. I think he can and am excited, but unlike urban to OSU for us we can only speculate at this point.

Lane is going to take all of the heat due to his past. And that is a reputation he has earned on his own, so it is is what it is.

but honestly, Ole Miss screwed this up and nobody seems to be pointing out how badly they managed this.

LSU (and Florida) is who "needed" an answer quick from Lane, not Ole Miss.
But Ole Miss is the school that publicly set a deadline and ultimatum.
and Lane has been pretty clear that he wanted to coach this team throughout the playoff run.
LSU allegedly was OK with that, but Ole Miss dug their heels in the sand and wouldn't even consider it.


Money was allegedly roughly equal.
NIL funds were supposedly very close.


if Ole Miss had sat tight, their odds of keeping him would have skyrocketed.

instead of saying "make your decision right now! you're either here long term or get the fuck out!", they should have taken the "do NOT make a decision now. we know the money is right in line. Stick around and ride this thing out to see what we can accomplish here"

then, the deeper Ole Miss gets, the harder and harder it is for LSU to wait.
and the more and more attractive Ole Miss as a long term residence can look to Lane.

one school was telling him exactly what he wanted to hear.
one school was telling him literally the exact opposite of what he wanted to hear.

Oh well. I'd rather have a rudderless Ole Miss in the CFP. Can't wait to see them play their first round game ....

I even started a thread on our board about the "LSU circus" detailing how horribly this had all been bungled by LSU (and the Governor).

how the hell we ended up with the guy who was on top of this administration (and the majority of the fanbase) list is a fucking mystery.

It just might be a perfect match. A school and a coach that both have a knack for failing upward, or at least chaotically stumbling into improved situations.
