Columbus- Jessica Davenport wouldn't stand up.
When the crowd at Value City Arena on Sunday was told that Ohio State's senior center had reached 1,000 rebounds for her career, making her the second player in Big Ten history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, Davenport's teammates stood and crowded around her on the Ohio State bench.
She sat and smiled.

Davenport took advantage of a height advantage inside, scoring 22 points to lead the fifth-ranked Buckeyes past the Hawkeyes 85-49 yesterday.
Iowa was without 6-foot-6 Megan Skouby, a Mentor graduate who broke her hand in practice on Saturday. That left the middle almost wide open for Davenport.

"I don't know if I can say Megan is her physical equal," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. "There's not many people in America who are Jessica Davenport's physical equal. But at the same time it was obviously a big loss when we lost Megan."

Buckeye Fast Starts, Fast Breaks, Too Much for Hawkeyes
By John Porentas
The No. 5 Buckeyes (21-1, 10-0 Big Ten) opened the first half with a 16-2 blitz, then followed up with a 14-0 run to open the second half to enable themselves to embarrass visiting Iowa (11-12, 3-7 Big Ten) by a final of 85-49 in front of 9,799 fans at Value City Arena.
Iowa was without the services of regular starting center, 6-5 Megan Skouby who broke a bone in her hand in practice on Friday and is expected to be out of action from two to four weeks. Without Skouby the Hawkeyes could not match up with 6-5 OSU center Jessica Davenport. Davenport capitalized with a game-high 22 points and also added five rebounds.

FRED SQUILLANTE DISPATCH Ohio State?s Star Allen, left, and Iowa?s Jenee Graham fight for a loose ball. Allen scored 11 points.
The numbers keep growing for the Ohio State women?s basketball team, but pardon the coaches and players if they decline to count any of them, for the time being at least.
On the same afternoon that the fifthranked and Big Ten-leading Buckeyes dismantled Iowa 85-49 yesterday in Value City Arena, several significant statistical events occurred.

Women's Basketball: Ohio State sophomore forward Star Allen has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week. In three games last week, Allen averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds. This is the fifth weeky honor awarded to a Buckeye, as center Jessica Davenport earned the other four.
The Buckeyes are back in action on Thursday, when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Badgers at 8pm.

C-J grad Hoskins hurt in OSU women's win

By the Associated Press

Friday, February 09, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS ? Ohio State's 28-game Big Ten winning streak endured a stiff test at Minnesota. The last five games of the conference season might be more difficult if Brandie Hoskins is missing.
Marscilla Packer had 18 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, to lead the fourth-ranked Buckeyes past the Gophers 70-67 Thursday night.

But Hoskins, one of two senior starters and the team's second-leading scorer, suffered a foot injury late in the first half and didn't return.

Buckeyes rally to keep Big Ten streak alive

Teamwork leads to 28th consecutive league win

By Dave Campbell

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - Marscilla Packer had 18 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, to lead fourth-ranked Ohio State to its 28th consecutive Big Ten victory, 70-67 over Minnesota, on Thursday night.
Jessica Davenport had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks to become the conference women's career leader in that category with 372. She broke the record of 367 set by Michigan's Trish Andrew from 1989-93.
The Buckeyes (22-1, 11-0) have won 14 in a row overall, and survived despite 25 turnovers and a 10-point deficit midway through the second half.

Seems like a new scoring leader every week and that is great. I tracked the scoring and these ladies made a heck of a comeback to win this one. We better all be proud of OUR lady Bucks!

MINNEAPOLIS ? With fewer than 20 seconds remaining in the first half of an already taut Big Ten game, Ohio State senior guard Brandie Hoskins stood motionless and alone under the Minnesota basket last night in Williams Arena.
The anguished look on her face fairly screamed that something had given way in the area of her surgically repaired Achilles? tendon. She was carried to the locker room and reappeared midway through the second half wearing a boot over her left ankle.

Terrible break for Brandie. :(
What a terrible thing to happen to Brandie, especially in her senior year. This sucks to have her year and career at tOSU end this way. I have always enjoyed watching her play. Her enthusiasm and leadership will be missed.
Thank you Brandie, I will miss you. You are a true Buckeye.
