Lady Buckeyes Basketball

If SDSU upsets Stanford (game being played at the Aztecs home court) OSU will be facing former OSU coach Beth Burns.

Stanford is up 10-8 3 minutes into the game

Stanford has loads more depth, especially in the post. They are a little weak at pg (JJ Hones went down in the first game of the season). I don't disagree that the Buckeyes may be able to pull the shocker but they are going to have to keep Star and Jantel on the court, execute with great efficiency and pressure the heck out of the Cardinal backcourt.

SDSU was 15-0 at home this season. They're now 15-1.

Stanford 77
SDSU 49

The Buckeyes will have a challenge on their hands playing the Cardinal at Berkeley. It's going to take a big effort.

Go Bucks! :oh:

Bucky Katt.......if EITHER SDSU or Stanford wins, OSU will be facing a former coach. SDSU = Beth Burns (as you pointed out), and Stanford = Tara VanDeveer (coach before Beth Burns)......personally I'd rather see SDSU win, as they'll be easier meat than Stanford. Been watching them, and Janelle will have some company in the paint with their big girl (Appel). Plus Stanford is much deeper on the bench.

Either way it goes, it'll be a good game.

Lavender scores 20 as OSU outlasts Mississippi St.

By Associated Press

Tuesday, March 24, 2009
COLUMBUS ? Jantel Lavender had 20 points and Ohio State scored its final 10 points on free throws to beat Mississippi State 64-58 Monday, March 23, in an NCAA second-round game.
The Buckeyes (29-5) advance to the Berkeley regional to meet the San Diego State-Stanford winner on Saturday.
Star Allen added 12 points and 10 rebounds, saving her best for last. She rebounded a missed free throw with 15 seconds left and then added two clinching free throws for Ohio State, which has won 10 in a row and 15 of 17.
Tysheka Grimes scored 20 of her 22 points in the opening half for Mississippi State (23-10), which was seeking the school's first trip ever to the Sweet 16. Alexis Rack added 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Lavender hit two foul shots for a 60-58 lead with 2:56 left, and the Buckeyes held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless for the final 6:43 to secure their eighth trip to the regional semifinals.

Great win by the lady Buckeyes. Stanford will be extremely difficult because they have so many different weapons.

One of the things that I did not understand during last night's game, and it happens in other games besides Ohio State's women's games, is that I think we were shooting 1-1 with about 12 minutes left in the second half and were in the double bonus around the 9 minute mark. I guess if I were the coach I would have told my team not to settle for outside shots but to try and take it to the basket which may lead to more fouls and some easy points from the free-throw line. I have seen this in other games other than Ohio State and maybe it's more difficult than I think it might be.

Nice win by MSU ..Just noticed too that they are in the same bracket as the Bucks. so we won't see an all B10 final.

Purdue's still hanging around as well on the opposite side, though I'll be surprised if they make it past Rutgers.

Nice showing by the Big Ten this year with 3 in the sweet 16!

I will be shocked if Purdue makes it past Rutgers. They are about the only team that will even come close to Gino's girls.

If Ohio State can take down Stanford (which is a huge task), they have a very good shot at making it to the Final Four:)
