L.A. Blues ... or some post-game thoughts

Three different radio stations today were basically saying that JT needed to be relieved of his duties, not agreeing, I love him, but there are media outlets now saying that JT needs to go.

That's silly.

That's like OU fans saying Stoops needs to go.

No way! You don't just ditch a coach who goes what... 6-1 versus our archnemesis and has reached the NC game three times since 2002.

The ball surely has not bounced our way recently, but my goodness, he must be doing SOMETHING right!

Oh, yeah, he plays in a creampuff conference and lands good recruiting classes. Too bad that doesn't equate to actually having a great team.

I don't agree with this, of course, but I can see why people would think so. The recent spate of embarrassing losses in the national limelight detract from everything positive JT has done (again, I'm talking about from an "independent" viewpoint).

I've had a few days to think about LBJ's post that got this thread started, and only have an issue with really, one comment. That being; Beanie would have only made a field goal or two difference in the final score. To me, this is like saying, Jim Brown was only worth a field goal or two to the Cleveland Browns of the late 50s, early 60s. Huh?

Having watched Beanie break 60+ TD runs on numerous occasions, including LSU with their elite SEC speed I think he would have made a huge difference in what the final score looked like. Do I think we win with Beanie, no, but the whole game changes with him in the backfield. In addition to being a big play threat, Beanie takes his toll on DBs who have to tackle him.

I don't think USC would have gone with the all out blitz with Beanie in the backfield. If Beanie cleared the line on those blitzes, it's either a huge gain, or six points Finally, I think Beanie would have helped tremendously as far as emotion goes, and I think some of the guys quit at 21-3.

Bottom line, the better team won the game, but I think the loss of Beanie was worth more than a field goal or two:)

I never thought I'd see the day where a vocal minority would be calling for Tressel's job. It makes me angry and ashamed. If I hear someone say that, in person...I don't know what I'd do, but it won't be pleasant.

It's only football. Get mad about something like government incompetence in treating injured veterans or social services missing child abuse.

This shit is fun, it can be annoying, but not worth punching some dick head when many others need it more.

Saying he should go is absurd. Saying that Jim Tressel shouldn't be the head coach of The Ohio State University Buckeyes football team because of some embarrassing losses is like saying Sam Raimi shouldn't direct Spider-Man 4 because of one film. It just doesn't make sense.

However, the fan base needs to be more critical of Jim Tressel's work. Judging from his recent press conference, I think that the fans and alumni have stepped up their criticism. And, frankly, I think it is making Tressel reconsider his thoughts regarding the QB position. I just wish this had started with the offensive and defensive lines team wide after the LSU game, because that is when it really needed to start.

EDIT: Just one more thing to add. I grew up in the 'Burgh, and I was raised Buckeye by my mother and father. That means that for the first 13 years of my life, I listened religiously to Pittsburgh Sports Radio. Those suckers are mean. This is what they would generally say after a win:

"Four sacks isn't enough."
"Yeah, okay, Whines Ward had two touchdown catches. He still dropped that ball on a critical third down."
"Plaxico Burress is the worst blocking wide receiver in the history of the National Football League."
"Does Kordell Stewart realize that he has a checkdown available for a huge gain on every third down? No. He just wants to run it himself."
"Joey Porter needs to shut his mouth." This one is actually pretty valid.

I'm just used to people actually vocalizing even the smallest things. Why? Because there is no such thing as a perfect team. I want to hear this after a win against Youngstown State...

"Why didn't we get to the quarterback?"
"'Why did we kick all of those field goals?"
"Why isn't the offensive line punishing the defensive line?"
"Why aren't the DTs pushing hard enough?"
"Why can't the offensive coordinator find a way to get Brandon Saine in space?"
"Does Todd Boeckman know that he has a checkdown available?"

That is what I want to hear.

Agreed. We watch kids play football......it's just a hobby. We enjoy it to death.....but honestly, it's only that. I have a lot of other things going on in my life right now that trump a Buckeye loss. Sure, I hate to see the boys lose.

But, you live to fight another day. The tides will turn, this loss (IMHO) could be the turning point in the program. I think that Tressel is severly humbled. I think this loss finally will make him realize that he needs to rethink some of his strategies. Terrell Pryor could be the catalyst to that line of thought.

Wow...they are idiots. I still think JT is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He needs to shake up things a bit, which from the sounds of things, he will. He should have shaken them up the 2nd half last Saturday but oh well. I am still a huge Tressel fan and think we have one of the greatest football coaches around. Carrol or Stoops might have better X's and O's, but I still like JT as an all around coach. I just have to read the winners manual to remind myself of that. Yes, he needs to start stepping it up in the big games, but I think he has it in him, as do the players coming through the program.

This is a fine and very interesting post. The first line is sobering and certainly very true. Bravo.

The second line, for whatever reason, is downright hilarious to me...not laughing at you I mean, I just think its funny. Football is fun...so don't punch some fuckwad in the mouth  Reminds me of Bull Durham when he visits the mound: "This game is fun...It's FUN GODDAMN IT"

I know "INSERT HEAVY SARCASM HERE" what you mean! :wink2:

I really do not think people are as upset with the loss as much as they are upset by how we lost. getting totally dominated 3 years in a row by elite teams when grouped in that category ourselves is down right humbling.

Losing 2 NC games in a row doesn't suck, what sucks is how we lost. I never lose by that much in PS3... WTF? :)

:oh:
