OHIO STATE WRESTLERS KYLE SNYDER AND LOGAN STIEBER TRAVEL TO PARIS FOR THE 2017 SENIOR WRESTLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

All wrestling tournaments are fun, but the 2017 Senior World Championships should be especially fun. Buckeyes Logan Stieber and Kyle Snyder punched their tickets a few months ago with victories at the US Team Trials. Both wrestlers have performed very well as of late, but Snyder and particular was dominant.

Very impressive, and congrats to Kyle.

However, you also have to hand it to his competitor; Abdulrashid normally wrestles in the 86 kg weight class, in which he has been undefeated since 2013. To challenge Snyder, he moved up to the 97 kg weight class. Very very impressive that he came in 2nd in the world after only just moving up 11 kilos

It's a few days after the fact, but somehow I still get a kick that Snyder was strutting around the mat like Stone Cold Steve Austin after winning the World Championship.

This is after jumping up-and-down when the official was raising his hand.

Proud that he's a Buckeye.

Posted it in the general OSU wrestling forum, but this win was the best in Snyder's career thus far. Yes, Sadulaev bumped up to wrestle Kyle...but he is so damn good that I am not kidding in saying he could go up or down to about any weight and beat anyone, he was the best wrestler pound-for-pound in the world. I can't call it a "miracle" that Kyle beat him given how incredible Kyle is, but this was one of the more spectacular wins in the sport of US wrestling and that is far from hyperbole. Just watch the match (link below)...pure heart and determination to gut out that win against the world's best, I have goosebumps every time I watch it. Just enjoy watching his senior year. Of course he is supremely talented and his technique is flawless, but his effort and motor at the end of a match is what sets him apart. Glad to call him a Buckeye.

KYLE SNYDER: THE THREE-TIME, REIGNING WORLD CHAMPION COULD BECOME "THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME"

87042_h.jpg

Kyle Snyder is the best pound-for-pound wrestler on the planet. This is not hyperbole; this is not an exaggeration. A student-athlete preparing for his final season of NCAA competition is the three-time, reigning, defending, undisputed 97 kg champion of the world, and he is nowhere near the end of his career.

While most students were moving back onto campus to start autumn semester, one of their classmates was in Paris, France, earning his third consecutive world or Olympic gold medal. He did so by winning what was dubbed "The Match of the Century," facing off against another reigning Olympic gold medalist Abdulrashid Sadulaev, a man more commonly known as "The Russian Tank."

Snyder won the heavily hyped match with an aggressive gameplan, upsetting a dominant athlete who hadn't dropped a match in nearly four years.

In a time where most people debate of the greatest between Brady/Manning, Lebron/Jordan and Saban/Bryant, a lot of people are not paying attention to one of the greatest if not greatest wrestlers in our lifetime in a sport that is overshadowed by a football and basketball. Still a young career but already so many accomplishments. Proud to call him a Buckeye!

Snyder had too much swagger for ASU

Zeke Jones, head coach of the Sun Devils, then sent out redshirt junior Austyn Harris, who was listed at 197 pounds, to face Ohio State senior heavyweight Kyle Snyder. Snyder was expected to wrestle fourth-ranked heavyweight Tanner Hall.

Snyder racked up takedowns against the lighter Harris and led 22-9 at the end of the second period with 3:15 of riding time. Snyder ended the match with a pin at the 6:17 mark to finish the day for Ohio State. It is not the first time that opposing teams have made interesting decisions with Snyder coming up in the lineup.

“I remember my senior year of high school it was like a similar deal where people would switch up their lineup because of where I was on the team,” Snyder said. “I want to continue to be so dominant that teams have to do that.”

A true legend and we are so blessed to have him at Ohio State. If you look at his career, I just don't think it can be matched overall. Kyle Snyder is the best we have had in the sport, hands down. Really proud of what he has done and will continue to do.
