I don't buy this statement for one second. Players have tried. I remember specifically a game the great Larry Bird played in where his teammates just kept feeding him the ball so he could score as many points as possible. Rumor has it that because McHale had a 60-point game the game before, Bird just had to top and that was the game plan.

David Robinson made the effort when he scored 72 just to become the scoring champion.

These are guys that were and still continue to this day to be revered as gentlemen of the game. Why should Kobe's accomplishment be diminished?

To be accurate, Robinson scored 71 in that game. I heard that one on ESPN last night.

81 points against NBA caliber players. If that doesn't scream impressive then I don't know what will. Sure, he shot like 48 times, but I think he made 26, also very impressive.
Exactly. I don't care what NBA team you are playing, these are guys that have been playing ball since they were kids, through high school, college, and now starting in the NBA. I realize Kobe isn't exactly the greatest guy who ever lived and that's why some are reluctant to give him credit for what he does on the court. Bottom line though, however pathetic it is, sometimes Kobe has to take the game into his own hands in order to give the Lakers the best chance to win. He knows it, the fans know it, Jackson knows it, and his teammates know it. 81 is simply amazing, face it.

Wilt was 28-32 from the free throw line in that game. Which was amazing because he was Shaq-like at the line.

Thump, I didn't have to look that one up. :wink2:

Thank God Wilt scored 100, or we'd have to hear about Kobe having the record for the next 10 years. But Wilt sure could score!

Yeah, thank "God". I'm not really certain what the major differences between Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe are besides 5 inches, 40 years, and around 1000 women. Wilt was just as selfish as Kobe. Even the year he led the league in assists, he only did it to prove a point, not to actually guide his team to victory.

If people wanted to give honest criticism and make an honest comparison of Wilt and Kobe's accomplishments, you wouldn't be allowed to forget that Wilt missed 3 shots on the possession he scored his 100th point. But, his teammates got the rebound and kept feeding him downlow to hit the century mark. Was that selfish? Absolutely. Should it have been done? No question. Was it one of the greatest accomplishments in sports history? No answer needed.

81 points in an NBA game is fucking amazing. He accomplished that feat fair and square.

People give Kobe a lot of crap and it's deserved. But I always wondered if MJ would have been happy playing with Shaq. All these guys have huge egos and I doubt that any amazing player at the level of a Jordan would actually like playing with a giant like Shaq. Pippen was great, but he was no Shaq. The thing that Kobe didn't realize was that Shaq is now getting old, with creaky knees and he can't play all 80 games. If the two were together now, Kobe would be the #1 option on a top team. Now, he's the #1 option on a mediocre team.
MJ was the most selfish prick the world had ever seen till phil jackson came around. The thing is, he was just insanely competetive, and his teams persistant failures in his early career made him out to be a huge cock ... which -- oh shit! -- he actually was! If you haven't read "The Jordan Rules" , you really ought to. A great book about Jordan and the Bulls in the 80's before they won their 1st championship.

Here's the thing. If you are a fan of basketball, competetive sports, or even just general feats of greatness by human beings, then you can see how insane it is to shit on greatness because you don't like their attitude or personality. Who the FUCK cares whether kobe is selfish or not. The lakers SUCK, they were down 18 POINTS to the raptors in the 3rd quarter and Kobe, SELFISHLY decided to score 50-something in the second half (shooting lights out by the way ... and I thought todays players are terrible because they have no midrange game or jump shot?!?!?), and single handedly CARRIES his team to victory, when all the other no-good stiffs on his team decided to take a night off.

Another reason why I'm not overly impressed. The NBA isn't exactly a defensive league anymore.

Sorry, I'll rephrase for those of you who couldn't hear me with Kobe's cock in our mouths.....

The NBA has no defense whatsoever anymore.

Thanks for the specification. I'll send the memo to the Pistons, who recently set a record for holding teams under 70 in multiple consecutive games.

I'll conveniently forget also that the Sixers put up over 160 points in Wilt's century game as well.
