There seems to be something of an entire cottage industry on youtube with these downfall farks including one where Hitler gets his car stolen and another where he's bitching about everyone bailing out on Burning Man this year.

And Indiana football still sucks.

It doesn't help that one of the smallest states in the Big 10 has three 1A football programs, four if you count Ball State, which you should because they were probably the best team in the state this year.

It doesn't help that they haven't won the Big 10 since 1967.

I remember when John Pont talked Upper Arlington's Ted McMillan into turning down Woody to go "where we throw the ball." The Hoosiers came to town a year later and McMillan lasted all of one and half quarters before he was scrapped off the Ohio Field turf and carted to the visitors' locker room. Woody had literally told the defense to go get him and that they did. The kid took one of the worst physical beatings I have ever seen including the job Florida State did on Danny Weurfle in their first match up.

It doesn't help that the state, like Kentucky, is wrapped up in basketball fever year round.

I hate to say it, but they'd be better off if they hooked up with Northwestern and both joined the MAC.

Hey, did Ball State just win the biggest bowl game ever played*? Ball State should be happy to be the second best team in Indiana.

Which makes me wonder, why couldn't the bowl have arranged for NoD to play Ball State in their bowl.

Except NU actually has 3 recent big10 titles and are at least competitive with the non-OSU rest of the conference.

Bill Lynch Out @ Indiana

ESPN News Service said:
Bill Lynch is out as coach at Indiana a day after the Hoosiers capped a 5-7 season with one win in Big Ten play to finish in the conference cellar for the third consecutive season, a source told ESPN.com's Pat Forde on Sunday.

On Saturday, Indiana beat Purdue on the road for the first time since 1996 for the Hoosiers' third Big Ten victory in as many seasons.

Indiana called a news conference for Sunday afternoon "to discuss the future of the Indiana University football program."

Indianan athletic director Fred Glass Glass has recently talked about the importance of honoring contracts, and Lynch has a year left on the deal he signed in November 2007 after guiding Indiana to its first bowl appearance in 13 years.

Lynch being fired is a head scratcher. 5-7 isn't exactly a poor season for Indiana. Indiana almost beat scUM and Iowa too.

Not really to be honest. When I was living in Indy, many folks were not happy that Lynch got the job when Hep passed. Most thought that a more thorough search should have been done to find a coach that could build on what Hep had gotten started and that hiring Lynch was a knee jerk reaction.

Mike Leach would be a fascinating coach for the Hoosiers. I think he'd kick DickRod's ass. God knows he can do it with a motley bunch of second-tier players, which is all anyone's ever likely to get to come to Bloomington.

I am not surprised by this. I am just surprised they fired him with a year left on his contract. He took them to a bowl and he beat Purdue. What more can you expect from Indiana football. It is not like it is Indiana basketball or soccer. You have to know who you are.

This was the first of the two Indiana based "bold predictions" I made at the beginning of the season. The second part was that they would hire Luke Fickle as their new coach. We will see about that.

The bowl season was with Hep's boys and I think partly due to the emotion factor....

As for Hoosier Basketball......well I hear they have a great recruiting class next year......

That would be the only way that I can see Indiana ever competing in the Big 10+. Prior to them hiring Kelvin Sampson to coach their basketball team, I wouldn't have expected them to hire coaches that are dripping with scandal, but now Leach isn't out of the question. Maybe Coach Knight can give him some pointers on being at IU.

Not surprised and it's a good move.

Lynch was doing nothing and his team mostly quit on him. He's a really really really incompetent coach. Just a bad understanding of the game. Plus, there's not much respect from the players on the team.

5-7 this year was due to a poor schedule, much like the last couple seasons. The bowl year, as someone mentioned, was ALL Coach Hep. The team loved him.

Not sure if it'll get better, but I'd say it was time to try.

Particularly when certain prestigious schools are raiding the Purdue/Indiana barrel frequently. Poor saps.
