Kevin (Tim “Asshat” Racadb) Warren (ex-B1G Commissioner)

Imagine if a team loses players to COVID during a stretch of big games like the CFP or something. Let's say the team has to play backups in key positions. What a waste of a season it would be if a CFP team...

I'll never see a playoff berth as "a waste of a season" regardless of what happens there.

Would Jim Delaney announce a decision then hide behind a letter when people ask why? Would he make you take him to court to get some answers? Of course not. Leaders don't operate that way. Cowards do. That's my issue with Kevin Warren.

I can disagree with someone and still respect them if they're a stand up guy and will answer questions to explain their rationale. Firing off a letter announcing it "won't be revisited" isn't just hiding from questions, it's refusing to consider new information as it becomes available. That smacks of stupidity or disingenuousness.

Not that he cares but I don't respect him. He's now a clown until he steps up to the level of his position instead of hiding behind it.

Very well said Jake. I would add how ridiculous it is that he’s alienated the athletes and their families at a moment that’s the exact opposite of how a leader manages a crisis situation. The modern miracle of how his son can play down in the south but it’s too dangerous in the Midwest blows up the flimsy rationale he communicated. And then of course we have high schools and smaller/ less funded and resourced universities within midwestern states that have figured out how to play. My 4 year old daughter is playing soccer FFS. There’s still an opportunity to stand up and do something but it’s not looking likely given what he appears to be made of.

I remember making a comment earlier in this thread, back when there was some actual hope that we could see a mid-Oct start, that if it were Warren being the driving force behind it happening that my opinion would turn a 180 from my initial opinion of his being a pompous, incompetent buffoon. If anything, my opinion of him has somehow gotten even worse. Someone also mentioned earlier that they felt Warren was treating his job simply as a stepping stone back to the NFL in a higher position...there is no doubt that's the case and that he really could give two fucks about the conference, its players, its coaches, its fans, or it reputation. Seriously, fuck this guy and fuck him hard.

UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS WILL STILL DECIDE IF/WHEN THE SEASON GETS PLAYED
Amid all that has changed, one thing has remained exactly the same: The Big Ten’s council of presidents and chancellors still has the final say on if and when the conference will play football this season.

While coaches and athletic directors have been part of the committees that have put together the return to play plans that those presidents and chancellors will ultimately vote on, the approval of any plan will require at least five presidents who voted to postpone the season last month now voting in favor of returning to play.

It’s safe to assume that Ohio State, Nebraska and Iowa will all be voting in favor of playing in October if that’s the plan that’s ultimately voted on, and there is belief that there will be more presidential support for playing a season now than there was a month ago. But there are also still some Big Ten presidents who remain firmly opposed to playing this fall, including Rutgers’ Jonathan Holloway, who told NJ.com’s Steve Politi that he still believes the Big Ten should wait until spring semester due to the risks of COVID-19.

“If I’m wrong because I was erring on the side of safety, I don’t have a problem with that,” Holloway told NJ.com. “I don’t think I’m wrong, though. I just don’t think it. And if I had to put money down, we’re going to see some radical changes within a month -- no later than October. I’m really worried about what we’re heading toward, on just college campuses in general, not just sports. It’s deeply concerning.”

While the initial vote went 11-3 in favor of postponing the season, the next vote seems far more likely to come down to the wire, with eight votes needed to approve playing a season (while it has been reported that nine votes are needed, the Big Ten said in its initial response to the Nebraska players’ lawsuit that only a majority vote was needed to postpone the season). If any president is still on the fence about how to vote whenever that next vote comes, it’s possible that vote could swing whether or not the Big Ten plays this fall.

Fuck Warren and the B1G presidents who voted no. We all know these fucking cowards aren't going to change their votes. There's a reason why Wyatt Davis just declared for the draft and called his decision to do so "heart breaking".

Wasn't there an offer of help with testing capacity from the feds if they told them what they needed by today? That even after that Kevin wasn't able to push the presidents/chancellors into having a vote by today is quite possibly the final nail in his coffin for me.

It could also be that his experience in the NFL taught him that every issue is best left to lawyers to decide. It’s not for nothing that the schools chose someone with that background to replace Delaney.

“Sources are telling me that later this afternoon, the Big Ten's return to competition task force will be on a zoom call with the Big Ten (restart) committee,” Feldman said on Big Noon Kickoff. “They are going to sort out new medical recommendations for a potential restart. What I'm told is the medical committee feels like they have a better handle on the cardiac issues, in regards to myocarditis. They have testing protocols in place. They've worked through what they've learned in the last six weeks. There's been breakthroughs on the testing front. They have to feel good about these new rapid tests

“If things go well on this zoom call today, there could be a president’s meeting with all 14 for a potential vote as early as tomorrow. There have been pauses in the Wisconsin and Maryland athletic programs but what I’m told, there's more optimism now on the Big Ten front then there's been in a long time.”

According to the Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein, that vote could come this weekend.

“Just learned re: timing of the B1G vote ... will be this weekend ‘at the earliest’ ... Sun or Mon possible,” Greenstein wrote on Twitter.
