Sources tell ESPN Senior NFL Insider Chris Mortensen that Sumlin has agreed to forsake NFL bids as part of his new contract. The sources said Sumlin's new $5 million-per-year deal guarantees him to coach the Aggies until the school has completed and played in its $450 million renovation of Kyle Field, which is set to open in 2015.

Unless they significantly upgrade their defense, they aren't going to be better than an 8-5 / 10-3 team. Johnny Foosball is gone after their mid-level bowl game, so they aren't going to have his playmaking ability to bail them out anymore.

:rofl: Aggy friend just told me Sumlin gettings a raise from $3M to $5M a year... so now Art Briles & Sumlin both make as much or more than Urban.......

Why? We're talking about Texas where $60M high school stadiums are seen as "educational reform." We're talking about aTm, the school that shattered the ceiling on coaching salaries with $1.7M over 6 years for Jackie Sherrill in 1982. This at a time when Woody refused to be paid more than a full professor with comparable years of experience.

Gut tells me that the Sumlin extension will go down as second only to the infamous Charlie Weis $20M extension as the stupidest, knee-jerk reaction in college football.

Not saying that Sumlin is a bad coach, I just think that aggy peaked with Money Badger, and it'll be all downhill from here on out.

My Aggy buddy (told you he was sometimes reasonable) agrees with this... not in the same words but thinks these contract extensions after 1 good season are an extremely bad idea.
