Keon Keeley, 5-star 2023 edge, planning visit to B1G team after decommitting from Notre Dame
Keon Keeley is back on the market and a Big Ten team is in the mix for the elite edge rusher.
Keeley, rated 5-stars and the No. 7 overall recruit in 2023 on the
247Sports composite rankings, backed off his pledge to Notre Dame on Wednesday evening. Turns out he’ll be seeing the Irish soon, though.
Keeley, out of Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Florida, is planning a visit to Ohio State for the Buckeyes’ season opener against Notre Dame. Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports has Alabama in the lead to land Keeley, but says OSU is in the mix.
“Ohio State is considered competition for Alabama, and he’s expected in Columbus for the season opener Saturday night Labor Day weekend against Notre Dame, top-5 battle with the Irish coming into town,” Wiltfong said Thursday. “That will be Keon’s mom’s first time on campus, too. So, an opportunity for Ohio State to impress Keon and the important people in his life as well. And Keon’s connected with some of the Ohio State recruits. Like I said, he fits in well with everybody. Ohio State’s a program that’s in the mix. Larry Johnson, what he’s done with 5-star edge rushers in the past, from the Bosas to Chase Young, certainly is exciting for Keon Keeley.”
Wiltfong said that Ohio State is one of 3 teams in the mix for Keeley. With a good visit, the Buckeyes could potentially take the lead over Alabama.
“You’ve got Alabama. You’ve got Ohio State getting the next visit – maybe that will be the big needle-mover. And then you’ve got Florida,” Wiltfong said, adding that other teams have likely reached out.
