Pavlik could know his next foe today

Plain Dealer Reporter
Kelly Pavlik should know his next opponent this week.
Bob Arum, who promotes the WBC-WBO middleweight champion from Youngstown, said a decision could come as early as today.
The Las Vegas-based promoter said the list includes WBO welterweight champ Paul Williams (33-1, 25 KOs), top-rated WBC contender Marco Antonio Rubio (41-4-1, 36 KOs) or WBC junior middleweight champ Sergio Mora (21-0-1, 5 KOs).
"HBO has preference," said Arum. "We won't know until [this] week, and then I've got to make the money right with Pavlik."
According to Arum, the only certainty is that Pavlik's title defense will take place in Atlantic City, N.J., on Sept. 27.

Money holds up deal for Pavlik

Plain Dealer Reporter
Cameron Dunkin, the manager for WBC-WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik of Youngstown, said an October bout against former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins was a distinct possibility. However, it was not a done deal, as reported in an ESPN.com story Thursday night.
"We haven't settled on the money," said Dunkin, during a phone conversation from his Las Vegas office. "But HBO is good with it, Pavlik is good with it and the hotel [Caesars] is good with it. So it looks like it's OK."
The non-title bout at the catch weight of 170 pounds would take place on Oct. 18 in Atlantic City, N.J. It would be telecast on pay-per-view television by HBO.

Pavlik may face Oscar
Thursday, July 24, 2008
All signs point to Youngstown's Kelly Pavlik meeting middle weight leg end Bernard Hopkins in October.
But there is another sce nario lurking beneath the obvious.
While Hop kins, 43, should take the bout to pick up another lucrative payday at his age, if he decides the money is not right or the deal not in his favor, Pavlik could be facing the game's top draw in Oscar De La Hoya. It is not as far-fetched as some would believe.
