OSU's first big day
By Travis Hoewischer

Through a scarlet-and-gray sea of kids, coaches, parents, and girlfriends, you find yourself silently noting all kinds of who-gives-a-shit minutia that us Buckeye people seem to go, quite literally, nuts for. For example, Nader Abdallah is now dreadlock-less, Rob Rose is now roughly the size of Optimus Prime.
Oh, and not one - not a single one of the Buckeyes' girlfriends are not hot.
I know all of this reads roughly like a blog post, but there's little fat to chew at this point; it's terribly unlikely that the widest berth given to reporters happens to fall three days after half the team kissed their girlfriends and moms goodbye and checked into their hotels.
I even caught myself asking Malcolm Jenkins who was looking good. Of course, it's easy to get thrown off the course when half the people asking the questions on the field sound like they're working for highlights.
What are your goals? How's the team looking? Do you hope you guys stay healthy?
Half the time, I was tempted to debate the merits of Lupe Fiasco versus Lil Wayne, rather than get some of the same "seriously"? stares on Media Day.

You find some perspective in the minds of the players, as well. I delayed my interview with Malcolm Jenkins just long enough so that he could try to snag Marcus Freeman with a laugh in the middle of his.
The guy with a million dollars waiting on him couldn?t have wanted to be anywhere else.
"I'm clowning around a lot because this is my last one; we're just enjoying ourselves out here. We focused too much on getting back to the game; right now, my goal is to just have fun and not take any of this for granted," he said. "It's the little things that you miss. Media Day, Senior Day versus Michigan at Ohio State - it's things like that you just don't get back. They don't come to every senior. Most of the things I saw Troy and those guys have their senior year and I didn't want to miss out on."
Established guys like Jenkins, who have a respect for OSU tradition, yet seem to be free of ego, are the gems you find on Media Day. While crowds swarmed around a Heisman Trophy candidate, a Butkus winner and the next incarnation of Vince Young, I found myself settling in with guys like Ray Small.

Running of the tunnel, first skull session - sure, there're other iconic moments in a walk-on's OSU lifespan, but media day has that sort of Christmas morning quality to it. Guys like James Georgiades or Ross Oltorik grin from ear to ear, pose for pictures with their folks, and try to not think about the fact that they'll be getting drilled by All-American first-round draft picks starting next week, and running until just after Christmas.
Media Day is their day. That's why Jenkins leaves the ball-busting to his fellow veterans.
"I don't mess with walk-ons - their job is hard enough already," he said.
This year it seems alot of the guys are sporting the arm tatts..sparcboxbuck;1226320; said:Is it just me, or have the tats gone over the top over the last couple of years? I remember a few on the guys I was in school with (late '80s / early '90s), but man...
So... not that there's anything wrong with tats. Likely getting one next week myself... but its going to nowhere near that kind of art.
I think it was pretty even if I recall (slightly tipped to Boone), Cam got a late inside rip in (memory is fuzzy), but the ball would likely have been gone by then.Boone vs. Lil Ironhead. Who won that battle?

boone looked pretty good to me. he looked a tad quicker and more fleet of foot than he had the past few years.I think it was pretty even if I recall (slightly tipped to Boone), Cam got a late inside rip in (memory is fuzzy), but the ball would likely have been gone by then.
