An even better idea is to take the 2500 and a couple of your boys... I recommend no Smallville watchers... and go to Tijuana and blow it on Hookers and Tequila.

Hawaii is your worse. Expensive, crowded, takes forever to get there.

I've always liked The Turks and Caicos Islands. There are some all-inclusive resorts there. It's quiet. Should be reasonable travel time.
Weather should not be a problem, but it is summer.

Hawaii isn't too bad if you really look, it isn't cheap, but it isn't ridiculous. As for crowded, go to Maui or the Big Island or one of the other islands, not Ohau. Maui in my mind had the best of it all, not devoid of things to do, but not too crowded either. We found a great condo on the beach (20ft away) for < $150 per night.

I'd recommend Maine to anyone but it would be really crowded in July and is expensive as well.

Our honeymoon was in Maine, in early August. We had no desire to go someplace warm in the middle of summer nor did we feel like doing what everyone else does. Instead, we decided to stay state-side, fly up the coast and just wander all over the state. Great time!!!

I didn't read the rest of the thread just the initial post, so I'm sorry if this is repeated.


If you are looking at the Carribean check out Aruba.

Aruba is a desert Island just off of South America - the temperature in the summer is averages 82 degrees (about the same in the winter). Also, it's well south of the Hurricane belt so you won't have to worry about some storm coming through and ruining your honeymoon.

My wife and I went there in 2001 for our honeymoon and we could not have asked for a better trip. We didn't do all inclusive - we stayed at the Bucuti Beach Resort and paid for everthing seperately. That worked out pretty well, we spent less, but of course we didn't splurge on food and drinks like we would have in an all-inlcusive.

Crime (despite the recent national story) is EXTREMELY low in Aruba. We drove around and walked through the small towns, through Oranjested and never felt unsafe.

Do a little research on Aruba - you won't be disappointed. It has some of the best beaches, reefs (for scuba or snorkleing), great food, great landscape. Perfect place for a relaxed vacation!

Josh, check on this link for USAir vacation packages. IIRC, your wife's family is from TSUN, so I did a little poking around on packages leaving from DTW.

It looks like there are fairly good deals available to Cabo San Lucas, Key West, and Turks and Caicos. I've been to Cabo, so I can give you some more info about it if you want.

If its July, why not consider going north- perhaps to the West coast of Canada?

Likely not as cheap as those islands in the sun though.

Aruba will never get a bloody cent from me considering the way they've botched the Natalee Holloway case.

That's absolutely KILLED their tourism income.

I just got back from a weeklong cruise that went through the Caribbean/Mexico. I hope this hasnt been mentioned, but I would look into Costa Maya, Mexico. It was by far the most fun I had and the island is absolutely beautiful. It has seen very little tourism in its time since most ships went to Cozumel and therefore much of the coastline is still filled with trees and sandy beaches. I thought it was great. Since very little tourism has gone through it, everything is still VERY cheap. Beers were $2 and you can get all you can drink bars for $25. There are many activities to do, but there are two downsides I can think of. It's not a very resorty area yet, so you might not be able to find a hotel and it has no airport so it wouldnt be the easiest place to get too. Since you folks are already looking, quickly check it out to see if it is what you want.

Romo is getting married in August and taking his honeymoon in November. I've checked out the Sandals resorts in the Caribbean as well as all-inclusive Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises.

Maui.

Not too touristy, not too isolated - I went this past fall and it was perfect. We're already trying to figure out when we might be able to make it back.

A lot of people earlier in this thread said to go all-inclusive, but that wasn't necessary for Hawai'i. Just get a good travel agent, one good guidebook ("Maui Revealed") and Yelp on your phone.

We stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort on Ka'anapali Beach, and it was great. When walking up and down the beach, it looked like the best choice we could have made for the area. The Westin looked pretty nice too.
