July Honeymoon Location Advice

Romo is getting married in August and taking his honeymoon in November. I've checked out the Sandals resorts in the Caribbean as well as all-inclusive Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises.

Any other ideas from the revered posters here on BP?

Somewhere with lots of beans and Rice and bring Dad.

Have never stayed at a Sandals resort. Friends have stayed at one in St. Lucia, they said it was a good time. Wife and I looked into it for our honeymoon (December 2009) but decided to go with Capella Ixtapa (http://www.capellahotels.com/ixtapa/) in Ixtapa, Mexico. It is not all inclusive, but a beautiful property and amazing service. For all inclusive resorts, we have been to the Excellence in Playa Mujeres, Mexico. We went back in 2008--right when it opened. Very nice, but highly doubt we would ever go back to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Last year we went to Punta Cana, DR. We stayed at the Ibersotar Grand Bavaro. I believe it is the top rated resort in the Dominican Republic. This place definitely lives up to the hype, the resort and grounds were outstanding. The food was decent, for an all inclusive place--just do not eat at the French restaurant. An added benefit was that I received 2 free rounds of golf on the Iberostar course. Not a bad course, especially for free. I was the 1 of 2 groups on the course. The other being the course designer--P.B. Dye. My wife and I had an outstanding vacation and cannot wait to get back down there.

I have also stayed at a couple of resorts in St. Thomas USVI, but none I would recommend---most places there are in dire need of updating.

If you have any questions about the resorts listed, shoot me a PM and I will help out if I can. Also, you can find tons of useful information at tripadvisor.com

I'd suggest somewhere with great room service....honeymooned in Telluride, CO, and watched the 4th fireworks from the porch of the B&B. Anywhere you go will be magical, just try to find somewhere relatively exotic (for when you come up for air). There are deals to be had everywhere, just shop a bit and something will turn up. If you are into exploring, then Cancun MX was a great place (Grand Mayan) down the peninsula in the 'Mayan Riviera". The Wood stayed close by (at Playa Mujeres), north of Cancun. It's just fun to do different things.

Hawaii is the all-time favorite honeymoon place. We have a timeshare on the Kohala coast of the Big Island, and you can swim with the dolphins, golf, go on a snorkeling expedition, haven't done the helicopter over a live volcano yet, luau's are great (OK, but everybody has to try one), and just putzing around. Not a big fan of all-inclusive, as don't want to be tied to a certain time for meals, and if you're out and about, I feel like you're losing money if you aren't back for chow.
In Hawaii, we slice a pineapple, scramble an egg, and eat on the lanai looking at the volcano and golf course. Leisurely and in our pajamas, which is the second best way to start the day.

No matter, whatever you pick, you'll remember it forever. But do enjoy it, for it soon wears off and out.........

Romo, when in November?

My ex and I spent the last two weeks in December traveling through southern Spain. It was low to mid 50's at the coldest throughout Andalucia. I'd wager that November is considerably warmer.

I can't offer any help for warmer climates, as I don't really go for the beach type vacations. If you're going early enough, a trip up route 1 in Maine would be great, but in late November it can get really cold up here.

That being said, Quebec City is the most beautiful place in all of North America. (Fuck you, Colorado)

African safari. It will be the beginning of summer. Start in a private reserve near Kruger Park and then migrate to Cape Town, the Cape Winelands and a reserve there.

Now there's an interesting idea, if you can swing it. I'd love to do that if your wife won't...but you wouldn't get laid. :wink2:

We went with a cabin in the Smoky Mountains and loved it. We booked a family sized cabin with a great view, where we had plenty of downtime, a massage overlooking the mountain range, went hiking, white water rafting, mini golfing, shopping, etc.

Congrats Jwins, Been married for 40 some years so my advice would be someplace near a fishing lake and a Mall.
I was pretty confused when I read this, having forgotten who created the thread.

Thanks for the input, especially those who pointed me toward tripadvisor.com.

We have 2 weeks at the beginning of November.

I think the soon-to-be wife and I are going to do a southern Caribbean cruise on Celebrity. They're the only line that offers an extensive booze package and it's worth it for us.(Romo's woman drinks vodka straight)

After the cruise, I think we're going to spend 4 or 5 days in the Bahamas.

I was looking at the St. Francis resort or the Cape Santa Maria resort. Both are essentially on your own island. Places look unreal and secluded from the hustle and bustle of the touristy resorts. Nothing wrong with Sandals, but if we're doing a cruise first, there isn't any sense in dropping an additional absurd amount of money on an all-inclusive resort.

I think we'll want some alone time. :sneaky: :pimp:

I would do this if I had to do it all over again.

I like Abaco. Got your dive certs yet??? That is a good past the time thing between the numerous consummation duties. :p
#1 dive spot in North America, per some.

that Atlantis resort looks badass in the Bahamas. We could see it from our cruise two years ago.
The single most Disney place outside of Disney. Really fun for all people. Great beach. Ask for the Michael Jordan suite.
