WEST CHESTER TWP. ? And then there were six. Lakota West senior-to-be linebacker Jordan Hicks has trimmed his list of colleges down to six, he said Thursday morning, June 25.
From the initial list of 16 schools, Hicks revealed that Texas, Ohio State, Florida, USC, Georgia and Alabama remain.
?It?s a combination of the feeling I get when I talk to the coaches,? Hicks said. ?Those are the ones I feel most comfortable with.?
Hicks (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) is the No. 1-rated outside linebacker in the country in his class, according to Rivals.com, and the 16th prospect overall. Hicks does not have any official visits lined up, but said he?d like to take officials to Texas, Florida and Ohio State for sure. The next step, he said, is to narrow the list down to three or four schools prior to the start of the season.

Jordan Hicks was visiting the zoo with this girlfriend recently when a zealous Ohio State fan recognized the Lakota West linebacker and broke into OSU’s “O-H-I-O” cheer on the spot. Hicks, who is considered by Ohio High Magazine to be Ohio’s No.1 high school football recruit in the 2010 class, took the uncomfortable moment with a sense of humor. After all, when you have more than 30 scholarship offers, including overtures from the likes of Florida, Texas, Southern California and Ohio State, you tend to draw attention wherever you go.
“It’s cool because a lot of people know you, but it has the bad part where a lot of people know you,” Hicks said. “So you always have to just be doing the right thing. I don’t really try and take it as like, ‘I’m a big-time dude.’ I’m just a normal guy.”
That depends on your definition of “normal.” Hicks, who turns 17 Saturday, is rated by Rivals.com as the nation’s No.16 recruit in the 2010 class and is arguably the headliner of the Greater Cincinnati area’s elite players who will be seniors in August. To local fans, that makes Hicks extraordinary and leads over and over again to one question: Where will Hicks go to college?

COLUMBUS -- The best high school linebacker prospect in Ohio was surrounded by hundreds of peers Friday at Ohio State. Jordan Hicks wasn't taking part in the Buckeyes' one-day camp for advanced prospects, but he was still getting some of the greatest attention.
Having narrowed his college choices to Ohio State, Florida, USC, Texas, Georgia and Alabama, the 220-pounder from Lakota West High School near Dayton is looking for a comfortable fit, and he spent his day getting more comfortable with the Buckeyes.
"I feel like the people are the most important thing," Hicks said. "I know the people who are recruiting me, but there are a few staffs where I don't know the majority of people. Here [at Ohio State] I know everybody. I'll get to know [the other schools] when I make my official visits."
