Joining a Frat at OSU?

To offer a point of view from someone not in a fraternity: If you join a frat, it will most likely take over your life. I see them as a really easy way to get involved/make friends... but its costs money and takes up all of your time. You can get all of the benefits other people here have mentioned by getting involved in other activities.

Not saying frats are all bad. Those are just my thoughts on the issue.

In general, make sure you get involved in something at OSU. OSU is a giant school (duh). This means that there's a lot out there for you to do, but it won't be handed to you. Find what you're passionate about/at least interested in, and get involved in student organizations, clubs, greek life... whatever floats your boat.

If you've never been in one, then how can you comment on how much time and money a fraternity costs? The one benefit you can't get by joining any other organization is the access to sorority girls.

Was never in a frat, and had no problems getting sorority girls. The majority of sorority girls are sluts, and in my opinion easily accessible. I will say some parties that are thrown by frats are sweet, but at tOSU there is always a good party somewhere.

I have a few friends who are in Greek life.

Two things here. 1. The Greek life part scene is not everyone's thing. (Not by a long shot. That alone prevented me from ever even considering Greek life.) 2. Being in Greek life or not being in Greek life doesn't affect your chances with girls. You are who you are, and if you're social and confident you'll get your share of sorority girls/non-sorority girls.

That's pretty much what reag said. He just left out the part about roofies being the preferred method to gain said "access".

Hahahaha - Yes, sorority girls can be banged by anyone, but you have much more access to them if you are in a fraternity. So I guess my point was, you have more opportunities to bang them because you get more face time.

I was in a fraternity and it didn't take up much time. One weekly meeting and that was it. Yes, it is more time when you are pledging, but that's only for a semester.

I know a fraternity isn't for everyone, and some of my friends never joined and wouldn't change a thing. The guy who started this thread didn't seem to have many friends and was new at the school so joining a fraternity for him would probably jump-start his social life faster than most other organizations.

Maybe it's different at ASU, but most sorority chicks dated fraternity guys. None of my friends that weren't in a fraternity ever scored a sorority chick at ASU. On the other hand, all I dated was sorority girls because of easy access - and roofies :paranoid:.

Fraternities at Ohio State

Hey guys,

I'm a freshman here at OSU and I've decided I would rush a few fraternities and see if the Greek scene is for me. I am not familiar with the Greek system at OSU, so I was wondering if any of you guys had some insight on different fraternities. I went to a Sammy (Sigma Alpha Mu) party last night and the brothers were very friendly and I think I left a good impression on a few of them. One in particular is a prominent member of Hillel, so he invited me to come with him today to a BBQ at the Hillel, which was cool. Another member was an officer of a student marking club I had coincidentally joined earlier in the day. The fraternity house is gigantic, but it was a mess. Terrelle Pryor was at the party, as well as some rapper named "Sam Adams" who I am unfamiliar with.

The reason I decided to check out Sammy was because I am from New York, and about half of the people in Sammy are as well. I am also Jewish, and although Sammy isn't totally Jewish, it is traditionally a Jewish fraternity. They also seem to have a good reputation here.

I am also checking out Alpha Epsilon Pi and Phi Delta Theta. I am going to a Phi Delta BBQ tomorrow, and after that, a dinner with AEPi. I was also told that SigEp is a good fraternity, but I haven't seen them yet (I am pretty sure they have a chapter at Ohio State).

Do any of you have any input on these fraternities? Are there any I should check out in addition?

Sigma Chi and Phi Psi are the two best houses on campus. Beta used to be up there, but they seem to have fallen apart. With that said, the best house for one person may not be the best for someone else. If you fit it in at sammy, go for it. I wouldn't rush without checking out the two houses I mentioned though. Here are some other thoughts from earlier in the year.
