Johnny Manziel (unemployed)

why give him what he wants, which is a way out of cleveland, stick him on scout team D and let 1st team O plow into him for a couple of weeks/months. If he doesn't show up fine him. Bottom line cutting him isn't the right way to go.

Re: The contract is worth about $8.25 million, including a $4.3 million signing bonus and about $6.7 million guaranteed. It averages about $2.061 million a year and includes a club option for a fifth year.

Keeping his drunken ass on the practice squad keeps them from having a player (on the squad) that may actually help them. Besides I don't think he is eligible for the "practice squad":

Eligibility

Practice squads are considered to be for developmental purposes. Therefore, veterans are not eligible to be signed to the practice squad. Here is a closer look at the eligibility requirements.
  • A player is eligible if he does not have an accrued season of NFL experience. Players gain an accrued season by being on the active roster for at least six games.
  • If a player has one accrued season, they can still be practice squad eligible if they were on the 45-man active gameday roster for less than nine regular season games.
  • A player is deemed to have served a season on the practice squad if he remains on the practice squad for at least three weeks. Players are eligible to be on the practice squad for two seasons.
  • However, as mentioned above, each club can sign a maximum of two Practice Squad players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons of free agency credit
  • Players can be eligible for a third practice squad season if their team maintains no less than 53 players on the active/inactive list at all times

Doesn't cutting him save the Browns from having to pay him and/or reduces his salary cap hit?

Also, (assuming Jerry Jones even wants him) doesn't Jones actually deserve a player like him?

If I were the Browns, I would try to build a case that Manziel violated his contract, terminate it and try to get half the signing bonus back. He may also have some issues with the league based on violating his aftercare program from rehab.

Didn't he voluntarily go to rehab? I don't think it was NFL mandated, in which case I don't think the NFL would be involved and/or have any issues concerning his aftercare program.

Anyway for further discussion purposes, I found this, i.e. NFL Personal Conduct Policy:

Don't worry, Browns fans. I suspect there's an old fool down in Texas who will gleefully overpay for Johnny. It wouldn't be the first time he's done that sort of trade. :ohbrother:
