John Cooper (former head coach, 2-10-1)

@Ramzy made an interesting observation about Coop being born just a bit too soon in his piece published today.

Those teams, particularly 95, 96 and 98 would have stood a good chance, on paper, of winning it all. Otoh, as noted, Coop wasn't particularly great in the post season. Still... his teams also beat some good team early. 95 was a fucking gauntlet. 96 wasn't any easier

I would be willing to bet Jim Harbaugh's one good testicle that Coop would have found a way to fuck it up.

Actually, my next memory of USC was the 1984 Rose.... and then the atrocity that was 1989...

Another thank you Urban moment, even if that second half put me to sleep

I have done a reasonably good job of suppressing OSU memories from about 1987 to 1992-3. Mostly I was drunk but fucking Cooper man. Wow those days were grim.

Didn’t he coach arena league too or am I dreaming?

In 2003, Bruce came out of retirement to coach the final ten games for the Arena Football League's Iowa Barnstormers, guiding them to a 7–3 record. In 2004, Bruce returned to Ohio to become the head coach for the Columbus Destroyers, who were moving from Buffalo to Columbus that year. He retired to a front office position after coaching the Destroyers to a 6–10 record in 2004, and was replaced as head coach by Chris Spielman, who played for Bruce at Ohio State. Bruce finished with a 19–25 record over four seasons in the AFL.
