Joey Porter on Colts-Steelers Officiating

Captain Hindsight

The Hero of the Modern Age
Wow. Joey Porter can not keep himself out of the spotlight, can he? Now, after a WIN against the Colts in the playoffs, he said that the officials were giving the Colts every chance to get back in the gam, so the NFL could see Peyton Manning a Super Bowl win. I don't know whether it's true or not, but the guy could've just kept his fucking mouth shut. They won the game. That's all that matters. Get ready for Denver next week, Joey.

Does anyone agree or disagree with Porter?

I have nothing against 99% of the Colts players or coaches.

That said, I think they are to the NFL what Michigan is to the Big 10 with referees. I think they get the benefit of a large number of calls (PI) and non-calls (holding) throughout the season, and a lot of critical ones seem to go their way.

I don't know if I'd go as far as Porter did (OK, I wouldn't...he should shut up) but if I were into conspiracies, it did almost seem like the ref was looking for a way to overturn that INT to keep the Colts in the game, with the amount of time it took and the fact that the "indisputable" evidence didn't seem so indisputable to me.

I guess the refs forgot they were supposed to make the Colts win when they overlooked Faneca's offsides on the 4th and 1 play which would have given the ball to the Colts about 3 minutes sooner. THis after they spotted an Indy OL barely move in the 1st quarter. :roll1:

porter is just a very emotional player who speaks without thinking. plus they got him right after the game when he was still jacked up.

roid rage needs time to cool down before it is safe to speak

I understand that he is a very emotional player, but if he's going to criticize officiating after a WIN, he needs to take it down at least a notch or two, or just keep his mouth shut.

"i'm trying to be a good teammate, but we had some protection problems"

My point exactly. The funny thing is, if, in the heat of the moment, Peyton just exploded with "Jesus, I was running for my life, no one ever blocked Porter, I couldn't let Marvin get open..." he could have apologized for a heat-of-the-moment outburst (and probably wouldn't have had to), and no one would have thought anything of it. Instead, he comes with the contrived "I'm trying to be a good teammate here" crap, and it sounds completely phony, and he insults his line. Oh well, I'm sure he'll get a pass on that too.

I dislike Joey Porter as much as anyone in the NFL, but....

He's right. I hate when players and coaches are told to just shut up when there is an inexcusable call. The Polamalu call was absolutely unforgiveable, and Porter was right to call the officials out on it.
