Joey Porter on Colts-Steelers Officiating

I dislike Joey Porter as much as anyone in the NFL, but....

He's right. I hate when players and coaches are told to just shut up when there is an inexcusable call. The Polamalu call was absolutely unforgiveable, and Porter was right to call the officials out on it.

Uh, no...not when the call ended up not affecting the outcome of the game. If the call did end up playing a role in Pittsburgh losing, then it would be understandable.

I think the officials did need to be called out on this. It was obviously a mistake. And sometime you need to keep the officiating in check so it can continue to get better, especially with instant replay. Obviously Porter went about it the wrong way. But I don't think it should matter whether you won or lost as to question a call, but I WOULD NOT question the integrity of the officials. I am sure they are doing what they think is right...they wouldn't put their job and their image on the line just to screw over one team. But when it is obvious they messed up...I think win or lose, it's still an issue.

Wow. Joey Porter can not keep himself out of the spotlight, can he? Now, after a WIN against the Colts in the playoffs, he said that the officials were giving the Colts every chance to get back in the gam, so the NFL could see Peyton Manning a Super Bowl win. I don't know whether it's true or not, but the guy could've just kept his fucking mouth shut. They won the game. That's all that matters. Get ready for Denver next week, Joey.

Does anyone agree or disagree with Porter?

they interviewed him right after the game, not exactly during a time of calm and collected thinking. plus, the officiating was atrocious.

he should just be lucky that his team won the game, though.

Still, he needs to learn to keep his fucking trap shut. If the outcome had of been different, then there might be a reason to do it. However, they won. So build upon a win (that you apparently weren't destined to get), and go kick the shit out of the Broncos in Denver this week.

the article also says that players aren't normally fined.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter won't be fined by the NFL for criticizing officials after the Steelers beat Indianapolis.

NFL coaches are subject to fines for criticizing officials, but players usually aren't fined.
Porter, a Pro Bowl selection and one of the Steelers' co-captains, criticized referee Pete Morelli's crew repeatedly during a series of postgame interviews following a 21-18 win in the AFC divisional round. Among other comments, Porter said, "The whole world wanted Indy to win so bad, they were going to do whatever they had to do."
NFL spokesman Steve Alic said there would be no fine for the remarks. Alic didn't elaborate.
Porter was most angered when an apparent interception by Troy Polamalu was reversed on replay, allowing the Colts to score their second touchdown during a frantic but failed rally in the fourth quarter. The NFL issued a statement Monday that the interception should have stood.
During his news conference Tuesday, Steelers coach Bill Cowher called Porter's remarks "ridiculous" and said, "Our officials are doing the very best that they can do."

Porter: Jags WR Shouldn't Play With Cocaine Charge

"If I knew the answers, I'd still have 20 more thousand dollars," said Porter, who was fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. "But I'm still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens.
"He got caught with cocaine and Matt Jones is still playing football. How does he get away with that? And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine."

Oh, Joey Porter. How I hated rooting for you when you were a Steeler. Now you are a Dolphin! Thus, my sports life as a fan is a lot less complicated! Hey Joey, you may lead the NFL in sacks, but I'd take either James Harrison or LaMarr Woodley over you any day.
