Well, son, you start with Bob Dylan, you add the Beatles, Stones, Led Zepplin, Cream, Jefferson Star Ship, Steppenwolf, The Jimmi Hendrix Experience, Aerosmith, The Who, The Kinks, The Doors, The Yardbyrds, The Eagles and toss Janis Joplin on top of it all.
And you stack that up against Michael Jackson and L.J. Kool?
OIC pops you are talking artists from the 60's and 70's not just music. I was just talking music that came out during the 80's. Moving Pictures and Master of Puppets alone would have rendered your argument invalid IMO. Not to mention albums like Pretty Hate Machine form NIN or Synchronicity by the Police. AC/DC U2, Slayer, Peter Gabriel all made pretty good albums in the 80's as well. There is actually a pretty extensive list of great music made in that decade.
