reporter - "Jim, you have 3 senior fullbacks, does your playbook include a handoff to the fullback?"

JT - "Yeah, we did it once."

reporter "You did?"

JT - "You left early."

reporter - "How'd it go?"

JT - "Minus 1."

reporter - "Any chance of seeing that for the seniors on the final home game?"

JT - "Not if it's minus 1."

Football
Even Tressel Has Hot Button
By John Porentas
Over the years OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel's demeanor has almost never changed. Even in the most frenzied situations the man has been positively unflappable. Some even questioned whether he knows how to perspire. He always looks under control and rarely looks too excited. This season, however, some insiders say there has been a bit of a change in Tressel.

Weak ... mention Bobby Carpenter, but then go into a story that wasn't the one I was expecting. :tongue2:

No doubt it wasn't the one that Coach Fickell was thinking of either, but he probably realized he had said too much, and changed the story to hitting the QB in practice.

I've mentioned it before, but I remember reading a comment from Michael Jenkins where he intimated that on the trip out to UCLA in 2001, a lot of the guys on the airplane were rowdy, and there were issues during both take-off and landing with players wearing their headphones after the stewardesses made their public address about portable electronics devices ... a lot of guys generally being disrespectful and acting like prima donna/star athletes. Jenkins said that JT ordered a meeting immediately after landing in LA, and the team was generally awe struck seeing JT explode like they had never seen him before.

Jenkins laughed and said, "There has never, ever been any problems traveling by airplane after that."

Coach Tressel underacheiving/underpaid?

I have had this question in my mind for a long time and this has nothing to do with the buckeyes loss today. I have a feeling that Coach Tressel is being underpaid when compared with other coaches in Big Ten and around the country. He is definitely one of the 2/3 best coaches in the country and one would easily expect him to be pocketing more than $3 million a year, which is not the case. Am I the only one who feels that his achievements are being under-appreciated by the OSU administration? Coach Matta, who is a lot junior when compared to Coach Tressel, is already on the verge of overtaking Coach Tressel. I think Coach Matta went from less than a million per year to nearly 2.5 million in just 3 years. On the other hand, I have also read in several sports columns that what Tressel has achieved is nothing extraordinary and there would be a dozen coaches who could do atleast as good as Coach Tressel with the resources available at OSU. His magnificent record also happens to coincide with the weak stature of the Big Ten. Do you think the OSU administrators have enough confidence in Coach Tressel? Is Coach Tressel underpaid or under achieving?

Neither. He worked out his contract, and you can only assume that he's content with what he's getting.

I'm not happy with Tressel's coaching/play calling today, but it's much like my often knee jerk opinion of Boeckman. In the broad scheme of things, you can't ask for much more. Remember Coop, Bellasari, et al.

Seriously, go to bed and wake up tomorrow and try to answer this question yourself......

I guess this loss has shaken quite a few people up tonight. Understandable, but let's hit reality shall we?

Ohio State and USC have both been the relative "dynasties" this decade. I think, given their records to date, USC is a game up on OHio State, but there is no one even close to them.

Look at the BCS games. Sure the Florida game was a tough pill to swallow, but damn if the Miami, Kansas State and Ntre Ame games weren't fun to watch.

3 Big Ten titles. 2 undefeated regular seasons. 5 10-win or more seasons (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007). He took a program was was clearly down in 2000 and made it into a National Champion in less than 2 full years on the job. EDIT: I can't believe I didn't put 5-1 against TSUN.

You tell me if he's underachieving. Hell short of Wayne Woodrow Hayes, Tressel has done more with Ohio State than anyone else post World War II. And as close to heresy as it can be, Tressel might someday eclipse even Woody. The book isn't closed on him yet.

Try not to place too much faith in sports journalists. Is the Ohio State program better since JT has taken over? Is the team competing for Big 10 championships, and, at the very least, in the national hunt on a yearly basis? Can you think of a better man to represent this university? JT gets paid a hefty salary, and earns every penny of it - particularly on days like today. Under achieving and Jim Tressel are about as far apart as you can get.

we have only lost 4 games in three years. we are victims of being spoiled and having extremely high expectations. we are by far not underachieving. this entire year has been over achievement. 12-1 with big ten title, beating the punks up north, and winning a bowl game would not be underachieving or overpaid by any means.

I agree we've been spoiled, and i love Tressel.. but I do feel he didn't coach a very good game yestrday.. this is also after seeing it once and drunk so..

When he called that timeout on 4th & inches my buddy tossed his beer across the room yelling 'dammit, no timeouts and now they're gonna go for it'.. i also wonder why JT (and there has been a few this year) never challenges obvious plays.. the 2 that come to mind was that 4th & inches, the spot was a good yard heavy if not more, and the obvious 80 yard run & fumble.. now that i've read we don't have monitors in the coaches boxs' i understand but c'mon.. get those monitors in there, or show replays on the scoreboard like every other stadium.

Go Bucks, in Tressel I trust.
