Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Brian Billick just said, and I quote, "there is no better coach in the country than Jim Tressel," when talking about the decision to draft Troy on NFL Network.

He also said, "I promise you that much."

Billick blows JT, and then takes TS, and yet they will never be not considered taboo for me...

Not sure. Billick said he talked to Tressel before drafting Smith (this was where the reference came from). To be clear, that was a direct quote, he didn't say "in college football."

WOW, that's some high praise. I think Urban may have something to say about that though. In the coaching business you are only as good as your last game.

Saw this little nugget at http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10159415

It was a throwaway comment in an innocent blog (mine), but Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh caused a minor stir by claiming to have the skinny on the future of Southern California coach Pete Carroll.

"Perhaps the reason it's been up and down here [Stanford] is that no one has stayed here 20 years ... " Harbaugh told CBS SportsLine.com in March. "Charlie Weis is going to do that at Notre Dame. [Jim] Tressel at Ohio State. Pete's doing it. He's only got one more year, though. He'll be there one more year. That's what I've heard. I heard it inside the staff."

Oh, really? When the Los Angeles Times ran that back to Carroll, the Trojans coach replied: "If he's going to make statements like that, he ought to get his information right. And if he has any questions about it he should call me."

Best part about it: When Harbaugh was asked if he was quoted correctly he stood behind his statement. Jim Harbaugh is my new favorite coach for not throwing your correspondent under the bus.

I had it all on tape anyway but you've still got to like a guy who rides his bike to work in his old Indianapolis Colts warmup jacket.

Just a thought for the day.

If we go 8-0 vs the "light" part of our schedule like many think we can, JT will have won 70 of his first 84 games at OSU good for a .833 win %.

Think about that, possible OSU career mark of 70-14 going into the last 4 games. Unreal.

Last four games of what? Is JT leaving for the Browns after this year? What have you heard? :tongue2:

Obviously, he means being undefeated in 2007 going into the 9th game. Don't think JT's going anywhere.
:oh: :osu: :io:

My pizza delivery guy just told me that if Tressel isn't 9-0 after the first 8 games, then he is toast. On the flip side, if he is in fact 9-0, after the first 8 games, then he is gone to replace Crennel in Cleveland. I tipped him...

Tressel talks faith during breakfast visit to Fort Valley

By Natasha Smith - [email protected]

FORT VALLEY --

In a city that bleeds royal blue and gold for its local university and black and gold for its state championship high school football team, scarlet and gray were the dominant colors at a Fort Valley prayer breakfast Monday. The display was in honor of Jim Tressel, the head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, guest speaker at the Fort Valley Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.
The event's chairman, Gene Waites, joked about the number of Ohio State supporters at the meeting.
"Contrary to popular belief, this is not a Middle Georgia Ohio State Touchdown Club meeting," Waites told the gathering of more than 200 at the annual breakfast.

Cont...

One such player is Antonio Henton of Fort Valley, a Peach County star who was recruited by Tressel to play for the Buckeyes. During this past season, Henton was a red-shirt freshman quarterback at Ohio State.
Debra Henton, Antonio's mother, said she is already seeing a positive change in her son since he began at Ohio State, where on Wednesday he will be designated a student-athlete scholar.

JT really really reminds me of Bill McCartney whom I respect very much.

I recall paying for gas one day and turned around and there was coach Mac standing right behind me. I immediately recognized him and gave him the obligatory "good morning coach, congratulations on the season" etc. To make a long story short, he was very warm, humble and charismatic. You could just feel the respect he commanded in those few short moments.

We have a very good coach!

McCartney was a lightning rod for criticism while at CU-he preached family values and Christian Right politics while his daughter was getting it on with half the team-she had two kids w/ different players, neither of whom she married. Tressel, IMO, is a far more humble man than McCartney, the type of person who lets his actions speak, instead of his words.

IIRC, there were some rumblings about McCartney's LA recruiting connections prior to Newheisal
