I think Goodell said he would've taken action against Coach if the Colts/Tressel didn't. Total bullshit, as was the suspension of Pryor.

You know, I really fail to see what NFL policies Tressel and Pryor violated to warrant their suspensions...so fuck Goodell.

I'm thinking if he does it will be a lower profile position, like returning to YSU or maybe even his alma mater (Baldwin-Wallace). Simply for the love of the game/job.

I don't see him at a high profile job, given recent events and his age. He has said more than once he has no desire to coach as long as Bowden/Paterno, so it wouldn't surprise me if he never coaches at all.

I've heard rumors that he might come back to coach at his alma mater and I would not be surprised at all if he comes back to coach at B-W. He's stayed active in the community as opposed to hiding and sulking back so to speak. He was at the Charity Game in Cleveland last week and it was good to see him there.

Pure PR. After Bush's middle finger at the NCAA, Carrol leaving before the hammer, Cam's tick-tock wait for a Bush resolution, and Tress and TP's issues, the public was getting sick of seeing the NCAA rules [Mark May] on by folks who were laughing their way to the bank cashing big checks in the NFL after NCAA transgressions. (yeah - I know that Tress's job is not that...but stay with the concept)

It all just came to a head, with Goodell making a statement with TP. Seeing that, Tress had good advice in doing something similar to stop the harrumphs about the seeming lack of concern for what happened in college as long as an NFL payday was in the offing post-NCAA shame.

Tress was just too high profile to ignore after TP got his wrist slap. This (slaps on the wrist for NCAA violations) will be the new norm.

So is anyone going to ask Goodell the tough questions about Bush and Pete Carroll?

Why is Ohio State so fucking special as to deserve all of this attention?

Let's take a step back and look at exactly what these guys got. They sold/exchanged some of THEIR stuff (I know it's against the rules) for tattoos.

Nobody got a house. Nobody got hundreds of thousands of dollars. No abortions. No hookers. No parties on yachts.

Pete Carroll played the system and skipped to Goodell's NFL without so much as a verbal reprimand. Bush played the system and skipped to the NFL without so much as a verbal reprimand.

Again I ask: What the fuck is so special about Ohio State that they are STILL front page news about some stupid tattoos? What did Coach Tressel do that was so egregious that Goodell decided to spout off that he would have suspended him had the Colts not?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!!

What's special about Ohio State is that their coach and star QB happened along at a time when they were the last in a recent line of embarrassments. Any time the rules are changed and someone gets punished for what bunches of guys did without penalty the day before, they go "Why me!?" Somebody has to be that guy. And y'all just happened to have the highly visible star QB who left tOSU under a cloud of suspicion of further violations while refusing to cooperate with the NCAA, at the same time your highly visible Head Coach entered NFL employ while awaiting to see if his sanctions will include a Show Cause Order, the professional shunning of a coach as unfit to be employed by a University or college.

Seriously - how often does that stuff happen???? Putting everything else aside - that is not your routine transaction, having both the disgraced player and the coach enter the NFL within weeks of each other. When Bush entered the NFL the fan blades were not yet covered in s**t.

The timing and publicity of the occurrence was what drove the decision, not Tress being "worse" than Pete, or TP being "worse" than Reggie. It was Reggie....and likely Cam......and a non-cooperative TP that nudged the PR needle to the point where he felt that he had to act. Tress' suspension was just a smart play on his part, defusing the situation before anyone had to take formal action, and getting it out and the story over before it was even a debate. Very smart on Coach's part.

That's all just my opinion, of course.

Such punishments have to start somewhere, so it's not a surprise that they do not retroactively pursue others. And I don't see a problem with that. I doubt JT does either.

So the NFL suspends Pryor because he went around the rules for the supplemental draft. While I thought 5 games was harsh, I thought it made sense to set the precedent so players wouldn't do the same in the future. The way I understood it - if TP had entered the regualr draft - no suspension, right?

So why would Goodell run his mouth about how he would have "taken action" if the Colts did not with regard to JT... uhh, wtf?

Makes no sense. Goodell ought to be thanking JT for recommending this and taking the heat off of "the shield."

Oh, it makes sense. It's pure bull[Mark May] PR. Goodell doesn't care if its "fair" or not, he's just running his mouth to create an image that the NFL cares about the sanctity of the NCAA rules because he's getting some crap from people about how Bush and Carroll and Cam likely parlayed violations into NFL millions. And because the NFL is more than happy to be a partner to that - all they care about is filling seats and TV ratings - he has to make some lame, do-nothing "get-tough" statement to try to distract everyone from the fact that the NFL does not give a crap about the NCAA or its rules....except when it has to pretend to do so to get everyone off their back.

What I find funny is that the longer Pryor's suspension with the NCAA is, the shorter his suspension with the NFL would be. If he had not been suspended at all, and skipped the one draft for the other, he likely would not have been allowed to enter a supplemental draft. He likely would have had to wait an entire NFL season before entering the following year's draft. But if he was suspended the entire NCAA season, he would have been allowed to enter the supplemental draft, and been allowed to play Game 1 of the NFL season.

So the bigger the NCAA violation, the lighter the NFL suspension.

What does this have to do with Coach? I don't know. But if he wants a 6-week break from his job, and his employers want to let him, then so be it.

A bunch of the local radio homers were going off on this in Indy yesterday. Their basic rant is that the Colts are an integrity based organization and how Tress has no integrity based on what he did. They were comparing Tress to what Kelvin Sampson did at IU...What a bunch of fucking morons....like Irsay is Mr. Integrity...fucking right.

And where the fuck does Goodell get off with these decisions. The NFL and the NCAA are two different organizations and IMHO this could be a violation of Tress and Pryor's ability to make a living (cue Gator).....

end rant....

Your right, because if he really cared about the sanctity of the NCAA, rules and so forth, then he would require a bachelor's degree as a requirement to be elligible for the NFL, or at least 4 years out of high school. That would cure the cut and run attitude some of these players seem to have today. Not only that but these kids could be encouraged to take viable majors (business, finance, economics, education, etc.) so that they had a fall back plan, and maybe not have to cry because they can't afford the shit they bought/created.

Or, he could champion a developemental league, maybe even partner with the UFL or even CFL. But he knows damn good and well that the NCAA is his monopoly's free internship program.

I think he looks like a fool doing this.
