Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Yeah, I don't understand the logic here. You want a coach who wins games. That what JT does. He may not have a lot of pizazz, but he wins. You can crow all you want about his losses in big games, but the bottom line is that Jim Tressel consistently wins games.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, so because he consistently beats the teams he should beat he is above criticism??
The fact of the matter is that against top notch OOC opponents he does not consistently win games, and currently he has a pretty big losing streak going.
And as we all know, those top notch oppenents are what makes the difference between an a top flight program and everyone else.
His conservative style of play coupled with his huge talent advantage will continue to win big ten games year in and year out, but until he gets the offense up to par with the rest of college football, he will continue to struggle against top tier OOC teams, period.

Tressel's seen him in practice a heck of a lot more than we have.. He knows his capabilities more than we do.

Anyway... maybe we could have done more earlier. Personally I was hoping we were going to do a bootleg or something, getting Pryor outside while still playing off of the run. But I'm not a coach. If it is truly a low-risk play, then why wouldn't Tressel do it? If it's just as conservative as what he was doing, there must be some reason why he didn't, other than he's too conservative. He must have seen something that we didn't.

I agree, but practice is a different animal than a 'Shoe with 105,000 people in overtime. We didn't do much to help Barclay. That's a ton of pressure for a kid in his position, and I'm really glad he has ice in his veins. Props to him. I'm glad JT had faith in him, for sure.

I'm not sure why he wouldn't do it, that's why I'm being a critic at the moment. I see the turnover angle, but I don't think we were in position to take that kind of approach to the game.

How many points did this "pretty good looking offense score? I keep thinking ten points less than tOSU's shittier one. That can't be right.

When did I say OSU's offense was worse? And did you watch the fucking game? There's a reason that people are saying Vandenberg was impressive, and people other than the announcers are saying it. Way to take that quote out of context, too. Read the following sentence.

I don't want to get into a shit fest in here, so if you're going to try to bait me do it in the drunk thread.

I would love to sit in on some of the offensive meetings today. I am curious how Tressel talks the offense after the fact knowing that they did win the game, but that he clearly has little confidence or trust in them to get it done. You could see the body language of nearly the entire offense when they would come off the field that they were frustrated that he took the ball out of their hands over and over again.

Just listening to the way nearly every Buckeye since JT got here speaks about him, I'd imagine it feels like all you wanna do is bust your ass and EARN his trust. Then, when you do, you rip a hole in the Universe with your wide open offense, and tOSU fans add that to another year that you're not allowed to count when discussing JT's offensive career at tOSU.

I don't really care if OSU chooses to go for the jugular or not, I just want to see them call plays that look like they're attempting to move the ball and get first downs.

Who cares what it looks like if it wins?

Running up the middle is good when it's working, but when it's not, do something else

How will you know when it's working again?

Of course it is. I'm sure JT knows this as well. So again, if HE feels comfortable with him kicking, that's all that really matters. Right?

Oh, and also..."passing to run out the clock"...uh...what?

Really? What did Dan Herron's body language say? He had 32 carries. Saine? Had 11 carries. Was he in a bad mood too? Seven different players had receptions. One of those players, the TE, led the team in receptions last night. He's probably never done that before. Was he sad about the playcalling?

What was their body language like when they won the game, locked up a share of the Big Ten title and a trip to the Rose Bowl?

I still think he's throwing the blanket over what Michigan will review for The Game. Remember how many chances he gave a floundering Todd Boeckman the last time we visit the Pig House before he shut the offense down and told Beanie to carry the load himself? I think he'll be more than willing to turn Pryor loose up there, especially now that we have the conference title already in hand, and against a defense that's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum of Iowa's...

Why aren't people allowed to criticize without pointless comments like this? Why does "who cares what it looks like if it wins" matter in this discussion? We're all obviously happy that we won. I know I am. But can we analyze? I don't care if you have a problem with me analyzing the game, I like doing it and found some things I didn't like. So did others. So, if it's okay with you, we're going to discuss it.

Yes, and that's pretty much what I said, but you left that part out of the quote.

Jesus Kyle, use your common sense. I didn't say we should be fucking airing it out trying to score 50. And I don't think it's appropriate to start running out the clock when there are 8 minutes left and we're only up by one possession.

We are doing alot of arguing over semantics here.

Is there ANYONE out there that didn't want to see Tressel give Terrelle and the offense a chance to win the game in regulation?

I truly think TP was really hurting at the end of the game...

After that long run for a first TP didn't do anything. I think Tress saw and heard it from him and shut it down.

Jim Tressel. I want whatever he wants.

This is the only stat I care about.

Days since Michigan?s last victory over Ohio State in football: 2185

Kyle, I'm with you. Hell, we won. I'm not complaining.

I'm just wondering when Terrelle will have shown enough to be trusted with more of the gameplan. From what I saw yesterday, the game is slowing down for him. That can turn this offense from "serviceable" to downright dangerous. I think the potential for a great offense in the future warrants JT taking that chance every now and then in situations such as these.
