Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

I just wanted to let it be known that I would rather have no one than Jim as our coach. The guy is the best ambassador a school can ask for as far as from an athletic coach. He not only is the voice of our football team, but he also is very instrumental in our players lives. Quite simply, the man makes a impact in our Buckeye community. Does that mean he has all the answers? No, certainly not, and sometimes he makes call on offense that frustrate me. However, in saying that he's one of the best coaches in the college football world today, and his record speaks that.

Oh absolutely. I can't imagine many rational people would complain that Jim Tressel isn't good for the university. He's the man for the job as a Head Coach. I just think he needs someone to come in to provide a new, fresh prospective from an offensive prospective. Continuity is great, but when things get stale so to speak, it only seems reasonable to bring in an outside prospective don't you think?

Actually, people were upset in 2004, and even in 2003 after the losses to wisconsin and scUM, there were a LOT of cooper troopers online.
Well of course people were upset in 2004, but it was nothing like it is now. In terms of number of people demanding Tressel's firing, at least. 2003 was more like assorted bitter complaining, if I remember correctly.

I don't really hear anyone demanding that he be fired, just some changes.

You aren't listening then. Not on BP...but out and about, it's about all I hear. "Tressell needs fired"..."Terrelle isn't a QB"...etc...and it will eventually drive me to committ acts of violence.

Well, sure there are hotheads who like to make a lot of noise. I would say that they are far from the majority though.

Agreed both ways on that...

It's definately the minority that are all bout tressel being fired, but it's funny that ESPN still decided to use those fans thoughts bout Tressel/Pryor to use as the voice for all of our fanbase.

Again, he's not the greatest offensive mind, but there's not another coach I'd want instead of Jim.

While I agree that is a vocal minority, I wouldn't call most of them "hotheads". That's what gets me fired up. In my experience, it's the people that used to use their brain before speaking.

For all the "fans" calling for Tressel to get fired who do you think we should replace him with? We have a coach that has been to three National Championship games, has a 7-1 record against Michigan, and is a first-class human being that has donated countless hours and dollars towards the betterment of The Ohio State University. Who would want to follow that legacy....who would want to deal with fans that would call for the firing of a coach because he lost his first Big 10 road game in the last 17 tries. To be a coach at OSU requires a special person that is able to deal with all of the BS that goes with that position...from the alumni, media and the fans. For all of those out there that want someone new....be careful what you wish for....especially when you don't have a frickin' clue how good you have it.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about here, where that talk is more rare than an Ohio highway not under construction, I was talking about in the general buckeye nation. That talk was rare and got you laughed out of the room in '04. Today thanks to the repeated bowl losses, the losses to USC, and the losses to Illinois and Purdue, the fire Tressel bandwagon certainly has some momentum.

It's still a very vocal minority, of course. And as usual, rebuilding will end, things will improve, and cooler heads will prevail.

Bob Hunter commentary: Rumblings

By Bob Hunter
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

A Youngstown State faculty member has nominated Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel for president of the school in a letter to the school's search committee.

How does Tressel feel about being nominated? When he was asked yesterday, the normally eloquent Tressel was momentarily speechless."There's no good answer to that question, is there?" he said.

He eventually said that he was honored by the nomination, but he seemed uncomfortable with the topic, as one might expect.

Tressel, who could help with the school's fundraising even though he might lack academic credentials, said he has received some mail about the nomination. But he seemed to weigh his words carefully when asked whether he had ever thought about being a college president or whether this is a position he would ever consider.

"I love that place," Tressel said. "But I wouldn't want to say anything at all that would indicate that I don't love what I'm doing right now."

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will attend this year's OSU banquet in Cleveland: Buckeyes Insider
By Doug Lesmerises
October 22, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A year ago, it was thought to be the 57th and final Ohio State University Football Appreciation Banquet. But the major fund-raiser for the OSU Alumni Club of Greater Cleveland will be back for a 58th year, and Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel will be in attendance.

Increased demand for Tressel led the head coach of the Buckeyes to bypass the Cleveland banquet in 2008 for one of the first times in event history, leading club officials to believe this year would bring a new fund-raiser to generate $30,000 in scholarship funds for Northeast Ohio students attending Ohio State.

Instead, a Tressel timeshare has been worked out, with the Buckeyes' boss planning to attend the Cleveland event in odd years, with former coaches John Cooper and Earle Bruce filling the bill in even years. The banquet always features several current Ohio State players from the Cleveland area.

Rumblings translation:

"Yeah, I know about the nomination. I love what I am doing but, you know what, some days I get out of bed and wonder why I put up with this crap."

Dial it back, bandwagon Buckeye fans. You might not like what your wish grants you.
