Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

I'm happy that the "alternate" jersey is a throwback. At least it upholds tradition. The white "atlanta falcons" jersey that was posted earlier was hideous.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but aren't the "Atlanta Falcons" jerseys the ones they plan on wearing? I'm with the majority and hope it's not the case, but that was how I interpreted things. The only saving grace was that this article was written by the same jackass who had the worst AP ballot of all time, so his credibility is beyond suspect.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If Ohio State loses to Michigan this season, blame the uniforms.

The Buckeyes will wear a throwback jersey "with cutting-edge fabrics and technology" against the Wolverines on Nov. 21 as part of a one-time Nike rivalry uniform program, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith announced in a statement Wednesday night.

The official word followed several days of rumors that included former Buckeye football player Brandon Smith posting a photo on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon of the new white jersey with red numbers. Brandon Smith said he was shocked at the response his tweet created.

No not those. Those have been on display is Chicago's Nike Town since September. They are just the product of an exec's thought process.

We will be wearing throwbacks resembling the 1954 season.

Good then. I was afraid Nike making jerseys "inspired by the 1954 season" would produce the same lousy results as Hollywood making movies "inspired by a true story." That article led me to believe those were the jerseys they had decided on. Either I misread it (very likely since I'm pretending to be busy at work), or this is just another example of the media publishing a story without having all of the facts. [sarcasm]And we all know that's never been done before.[/sarcasm]

With all due respect to the 1954 team, this is a horrible idea.

I disagree. I hate the idea of some new-fangled 'alternate' jersey, but an homage to a great team of yore is alright by me.

I like the idea, but the product is what worries me.

I am confident that the athletic dept. won't let the jerseys stray too far from the actual historical version...

Is it just me or did the press release from OSU dance around the word 'throwback' while describing the jersey? I think it says 'pay tribute' to the 1954 team.
I'm guessing these uniforms will likely be more about Nike and less about 1954...and will be hideous.

The good news is that the team will look outstanding in them while kicking scUM's ass.

I'm not against the sentiment, but this "throwback" jersey thing is a disease and it must be stopped. While some teams do it with good, sincere reasons, in many places it's just a novelty and I'd rather not have real tradition be confused with novelty by people who don't know better.

I have little faith in this reassurance. If Nike can find a way to screw it up, they will.

Ummm... I'm going to be spending the weekend downtown (I live here) with a couple of other tOSU alum... I may or may not go into the Chicago Nike Town just to burn the thing. :paranoid:
