Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

The video on the FSU site makes it pretty clear that the new Nike uni is both lighter and more protective. I'm all about protecting the athlete, and if this stuff is real as opposed to marketing hype, then kudos to Nike.
the uni is more protective? Or the pads underneath that AD wears on NFL commercials?

I love that hypercool shirt that they made up for FSU, would get an OSU version in a second though it'd be tough to find. I'm still [censored]ed they didn't release Lighty's shirt to the public.

I guess I see the entire thing - outer and inner wear - as constituting the uniform. From my perspective, function is way more important than aesthetics, and obviously people will differ on the aesthetics. But protectiveness is more objective, and I hope these unis will be more protective.

BTW, I have no idea who "AD" is, and I've never seen the NFL commercials you reference. Very rarely do I watch NFL.

Checked this by phone earlier. Will have to watch the video I suppose :p
Maybe we're all just grumpy people in general.
Tress did call us miserable.
It's just clothes, people. chill.
Agreed. And what better way than a white out for Iowa?

Peterson.
Very rarely do I watch NFL.
Nor I (thank you dan snyder), moreso during sportscenter.

They will probably go to this TYPE of jersey for the next season but that doesn't mean it's going to be the same as the one we see for the Michigan game. There really isn't anything that's going to keep the jersey from being much different then it is now going over to the new design. We made the subtle change to our sleeves the last time we changed the fabric/seams/mold of our jersey because it was a more form fitting look and the old sleeve would have looked too wide. Theres no reason why they cant basically transform our current jersey to the new model in the long term.

Edit:

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2009/11/05/1105fsufootballuniforms.html

"Next season's FSU uniforms will be made from the new material but will feature the traditional color scheme."

I expect we'll do the same, likely this is acting as more of a promotional thing to debut them. In the mean time it doesn't hurt to have another advantage on the field.

Have some interesting info, but it's not 100%.

I know of a place that will be selling the jerseys that will be worn for The Game, and I'm pretty sure they're the hideous ones that everyone hates.

Don't know for sure yet.. but it doesn't look good. :(

Can you share what store that is? I called around today in Columbus and nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. When you say jerseys that will be worn, do you mean replicas, actuan game used, or authentic jerseys?

Thanks for any info.

One of the challenges that I hope they resolve is the "sweaty gut" look that these same templates bring to schools currently using them.

I'm sure it has something to do with the "breathability" and "wicking", but I'm not sure that this is a good look:

On both the tOSU white jersey and the F$U one, look at the fabric below the numbers. Seems that the dark gut phenomenon may be a problem.

I don't think he was very accurate on that. The one I posted was the final 1954 jersey...the one they wore for Michigan and in the Rose Bowl against USC.

It wouldn't surprise me, I feel like smacking Hooley everytime he talks. He couldn't get more negative if he tried to. I did laugh at Paul Keels making fun of him on how bundled up he was at the last game.

Replicas, but twill ones. Not the screen printed ones.

I'll post more info when I get it.

No one opposed the shift to a better jersey, they opposed the new look of the stripes... and "too wide" was, and remains, a bogus reason for the shift. Look around the stadium and note all the "authentic" jerseys. Now, find a marketing tool -- say stripes that are too wide -- and you can sell a shit pot of "new authentic jerseys" to replace the ones with stripes that are too wide.

Yada, yada, yada. The switch may be a distinct improvement for safety, or it may be a marketing tool for the seemingly insatiable sales folks at Nike. I'm thinking of all the high schools, especially those in smaller districts, who budget based on getting multiple seasons out of uniforms. The pressure on them to keep up with the St. Iggys, Elders, Centervilles, Massillons of the state will be tremendous.

Uni Watch

Has some of info on this.

? If we go back to that Ohio State jersey photo that was making the rounds a few days ago, we can now see the same thread pattern on the shoulders of that jersey. I didn?t initially recognize it as such ? thought it was just some sort of textured surface. But now it?s looking like Nike is going to give some of the same design elements to all of the rivalry uniforms. Which means, once again, they?re subsuming the individual team identities into the larger Team Nike concept. Fuckers.
The pattern works better for the feather uniform than OSU.
