The rumor mill got rolling after ESPN.com's Pat Forde hinted on Tuesday that the Buckeyes might soon break out silver jerseys. The "word has it" innuendo escalated, and suddenly the "silver bullet" break-out game would be at Michigan. Reportedly, even jersey maker Nike was playing coy, neither confirmning nor denying that a deal was done.
Well, rest easy, OSU fans -- or be disappointed cutting edge clothing designers -- because no alteration to the white "road" jersey is in the works, according to OSU athletic director Gene Smith.
"No" was the simple text message answer from Smith as to whether a silver jersey would be worn with the silver pants and silver helmet.
Football sports information director Shelly Poe explained that the jersey rumor is just that.
"There are about 10 versions (of the story) out there right now," she said, adding that none was accurate.
So expect the Buckeyes to be wearing their white shirts when they travel to Ann Arbor on Nov. 21.
