Thanks, carry on with the "riveting discussion"...If your wish is to avoid a discussion about Ohio State uniforms, then clicking on a thread titled "Jersey /Uniform Discussion (OSU)" is probably not going to help fulfill it.
^ this ^. Since 1968 the jerseys have had the same block font for numbers (with the only thing changing was the larger size in the 90s), and one of two versions of shoulder striping. The pants have been virtually unchanged, gray (albeit some variations in shades) with black/white/scarlet side striping, which varied slightly in width. The helmet has also been essentially unchanged since 1968, shiny gray/sliver with the same black/white/scarlet striping down he middle as on the pants. Today, while we were watching a segment on JT being named the starter for this week and which showed some highlight from the PSU game, one of my co-workers commented that we looked just like Oregon State in those black uniforms.Ohio State has had essentially the same uniform for almost 50 years. There is nothing bogus about there being a lot of brand recognition built up over that period of time.
What's bogus is trying to equate tinkering with shoulder stripes & shades of gray every few years with introducing completely new uniforms annually which have no connection with the Ohio State 'brand' (regardless of Nike's claims otherwise).
It's never been black. I have no problem with the small changes that have been made throughout the programs history. The uniform has been consistent, with only minor stylistic changes, since 1968.
They looked amazing against PSU last year, I'm all for this.Any chance we'll see these Saturday night? I actually like this alternate uniform.
The Ohio State University still exists, even after wearing black uniforms. The players still represented Ohio State and came down the tunnel and ran onto the field with Buckeye leaves on their helmets. The band still came down the ramp, performed Script Ohio and played Hang on Sloopy after the 3rd quarter. O-h-i-o circled the stadium. They sang the alma mater after the game while the victory bell rang and I walked out through the Grove. They came to play for The Ohio State University. Whether or not they had come here, The Ohio State University would still exist. It would still be fine. No player is bigger than the program, and I don't think one team is bigger than the program's history, either.
But the uniform is a black mark on our history and tradition.
The uniform isn't bigger than the program or the University either.
In other words, quite recently.
We real old-timers go way further back than that.
One question about this colonel any relation to Dat?My opinion doesn't matter because I'm old (40 something), so you're opinion really doesn't matter because you're really old (90 something)!!!
We should have made Ped State wear some kind of alternates. You think our in-fighting is bad? The Pedophiles' heads would have exploded (big win for everyone). FAX!
Fuck those black uniforms, seriously. Ugly as fuck. Red Buckeye leaves? They're either black or green. Tradition.
But the whole thing ranks right up there with whose BBQ is better. I ain't picky enough to turn down some baddass BBQ. I'm gonna eat it...
The more important issue here, to me, is (fuck Nike), is it possible to bring back an American Textile Industry, even if only in part? The "Official NCAA/NFL" footballs are still made here in the USA last I heard (similar production process I'm guessing, and much less volume). People paying this much money for an official jersey, it makes me wonder how it can't be profitable stateside. I'd feel much better about all this if we had Americans making these hideous jerseys. They wouldn't be quite as hideous to me.
Really just trying to say 'Fuck Nike and their child labor". I know, they don't use child labor. Its all a myth. Colonel Nguyen assures us they are getting fair pay...
TL;DR
Fuck Nike
The entire history of the program trumps the current players. Their opinions on the uniform should mean jack [Mark May].
