Mili and I have been calling for silver numbers for awhile, outlined in white. I really get fired up when I see Nike give silver numbers to a random team like Syracuse bball but not OSU.

the color scheme works great the uniform does not. it will look dated in a year or two. it is like mango MSU, Va Tech uniforms before it, which look good briefly

Agreed, only make the numerals gray with white trim (yeah, I know...I've said this before). Even the helmets worn Saturday would work if they got rid of the black numbers once they started getting in the way of the helmet stickers (stickers would go only on the gray portion...red portion would stay intact).

The black numbers on the helmet were one of the few things someone from the 61 era would have seen as "authentic" about the uni. The helmet grew on me as did the real gray. Would have preferred the old pants stripes and the Troy Smith era sleeve stripes.

All that aside, of all the Nike throw up (mind you, the NFL knows how to do throwback, Nike does not) uniforms fobbed off on a naive public, this was the most likable. But it's still nothing more than a money making ploy.

As for the dotting of the i, maybe they'll bring out the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ from the West Point Chapel and have it dot the i.

I believe the Troy Smith era is where we changed the sleve stripes to remove the gray.

Excuse #1:

The gray was removed because it wouldn't fit on the new jersey material, IIRC.

I know. Pittsburgh Steelers had the same problem. So did the bears, browns, 49ers, lions... i.e. that's a bullshit argument because the bears, browns, steelers, lions still have their "traditional stripes." You put the number up on the shoulders and you keep the gray stripes.

Or excuse number 2: Now the stripes on the sleeves match the stripes on the helmet -- if you overlook the fact that that the helmet is silver and the jersey is either scarlet or white.

Here's a reason I will buy: the scarlet jersey with the gray stripes had been around for 20 seasons, more if you add in the fifties and the late sixties and seventies. If Nike could get the Buckeyes to change the stripes they could sell a shit load of jerseys to those non-traditionalists out there with $150 burning a hole in their pocket.

With the Stanford win over Notre Dame Saturday, schools that wear Nike Pro Combat uniforms while facing an Adidas or Under Armour school are now 14-2 since the Pro Combat experiment started in 2009.

Schools went 4-0 in 2011.

Nike's the winner in this, not really the schools.

Nike stacks the deck in their favor to be a "winner", so to speak.

They aren't putting pro combat uniforms on Indiana, Duke or Vanderbilt.

New head coach. New uniforms/jerseys from Nike?

Nike probably always wants to put Ohio State in new permanent uniforms and the only hold-up is Ohio State agreeing.

I wouldn't be shocked if there are new uniforms under a new head coach (not a drastic change).
