Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

Just count your lucky stars that Nike decided to go "retro" with our jersies rather than that "futuristic" virus they've sent to Oregon, Florida, and Va Tech. Those futuristic jersies only work once every three years or so (see Miami or BYU).

Does Nike have the final say in the design of the uniform. I am sure that coach Tressell had a hand in the decision to go retro also.

Nike had zero say in the design. We tell them what we want and they make it for us...simple as that.

Too generic

I guess with a little time to think about it, my biggest issue is the lack of identity. Sure, with the helmet and pants, it'll look like a Buckeye uniform.

As just a jersey, a lot of the "Buckeye identity" seems to be lost. Without the helmet and pants for supporting evidence, that might as well be a Rutgers, Cincy, Louisville, etc. jersey. The prior jersey could not be construed as anything but the jersey of The Ohio State University.

Disclaimer: Yes, before anyone says it, I know there's the block O at the neck. Unless you get a good look at it, it doesn't really jump out at you much - especially no more than the big Nike swoosh.

I think the design is sweet but no gray? They screwed up big time not using scarlet and gray. Sounds as if the sky has turned green to me.

....but I'll reserve final judgement for when I see it on the players.

You sure about that?

Uh, yeah...you think if Nike had any say so in this that our uniform wouldn't look more "modern" like WVU's, Cryami's, etc.?

I'm sure OSU wanted the swoosh bigger than their own logo
.

The swoosh is on the jerseys of all college uniforms made by Nike...it's not part of the "design" of the uniform. Same with Adidas and their logo, etc.

Sounds like the players like em

"I like it from a football standpoint," fullback Stan White Jr. said. "You don’t want any guys grabbing you, and the tighter the jersey the less chance they have, so it has an advantage."

Smiling, White added, "And as far as your image goes, to have a brand-new jersey is an exciting thing. I think a lot of guys are excited about that."

Tailback Erik Haw had a little fun with tradition-bound OSU making changes.

"Surprisingly, Ohio State University got new jerseys, which is astonishing to me," he said. "But they look good. Still classy."

I don't think I'm being overly dramatic at all. The new jerseys look like nebraska jerseys with black stripes added. Ugly. The jerseys in the 80s were ugly as well. It's a complete downgrade as far as quality goes. The matte pants are just going to make it worse, since they also look white on my TV. Most people I know consider our 1989-2005 uniforms to be one of the best looking uniforms in college football. I realize that these new ones do not approach the level of ugliness exhibited by Oregon or Miami uniforms, but I just don't understand why anyone thought this was a good idea. I mean, were recruits saying "Gee, I sure would like to play at Ohio State, but their uniforms look too good." Throwback unis are not always a good idea - Imagine the Kansas City Royals going back to their powder blue, early 1980s duds.
Now you are definately being overdramatic. I mean, are recruits gonna say "Gee, I sure would like to play at Ohio State, but their uniforms are too ugly"? Take a deep breath and step away from the ledge.

Some pics from NBC4i.com

Well the stripes do not seem nearly as noticable in some of these pics. The jersey does look much more like SCARLET also. Some view with the pants and being held up against a body are helping me a little. I am having a little trouble with that color change on the back though. I know it is just the dri-fit material but I hope it goes away once they have the uni on.

let me get this straight... they use extremely tiny stripes on the shoulders (to match the helmets). Then they decide it's a good idea to not make the pants match at all? It's amazing that the most wealthy brand name rarely ever makes a decent jersey.

Yeah I am STILL NO SOLD! Looks too Maryland Terapinish or UGA for me without even looking at Maryland's jerseys. The AWAY Jerseys should be ok however.
