Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

The black looks sweet...but is not our school color. If we had some standing tradition of switching jersey color once a year (ND's green jerseys...and they always lose when wearing them), I would be ok with it. Otherwise, I'm sure they can find a bad ass design for a scarlet and gray jersey.

There already is a bad ass design for scarlet and gray.

I know that just prior to and including 2007-2008 Ohio State really started trying to get away from the VSR helmets and go to the revo's because of safety... Also, at that point Riddell had the best testing track record compared to Schutt and anyone else, so our eq guys felt that Riddell had been proven safer.

There were a handful of players (most from Glenville) who saw wearing the vsr as a pride thing, or a Glenville thing. Basically, all incoming guys were told to wear the Revo, older guys were grandfathered and given a choice between VSR and Revo and a couple higher profile incoming guys were also given that choice. Also, during the spring, there were four or five (ish) players who wore a different brand (I think it was the Schutt Ion) to try out. It had a facemask that appeared to be integrated into the shell and almost looked like it had a shock absorber where the mask and the shell met.

I may be forgetting someone, but having just reviewed all of the equipment to edit the NCAA 12 video game roster, I don't think anyone uses the old school Riddell's any more.
I notice there are some low-lifes on eBay who appear to have loaded up on VSRs on the cheap and are trying to sell them to youth players. :shake:

eBay - last bastion of the complete and total asshole.

Now there's the 360 ($175 higher than the Revolution Speed). I guess that's up to the program to decide whether or not to splurge for the newest helmet (360).

The either wasn't available or hadn't been thoroughly tested yet in the year I am referencing. The guys in the EQ at the Woody are absolutely awesome. Lewis VanHoose truly cares about safety when it comes to the equipment and the players.

I didn't even notice the difference at first glance

I think you're talking about the Xenith X1

A few guys, including Chim have been wearing these the past few years...I also had the opportunity to talk to some of the equipment guys and their experiences so far with the X1 haven't been stellar. Of the handful of guys they said sustained concussions last year, about 3/4 of them were wearing the X1's. So I was a little surprised at the high ranking from VTech.

Not in regards to breaking tradition or anything, because I'm sure more than enough OSU teams have done that in the various sports, but has Ohio State played a home game in anything but Scarlet jerseys?

This is why you'd think black uniforms would be completely off the table (based on the fact it's a home game).

Although Nike money sometimes makes BS walk.
