We're aware of that, but thanks. That doesn't change the distaste for turning a classic, traditional uniform into an annual parade of gimmicks.

If they did an exact transcription of the 1943 pattern to a modern uniform, it could look pretty cool. But they'll jack it up.

I'm no admin, but I believe the facebook rule applies to unfounded rumors and things like that. I would assume actual pictures of the jersey would be fine to post.

If the Athletic Dept. and the university want to honor WWII vets, skip the gimmcks and donate a portion of the gate to this, or something similar:

Gimmicks like the Buckeye leaf that was started in 1968? Don't get me wrong, I love my BUCKEYES football, but i think that until we get back to basics in the BUSINESS of college football these things will continue to happen. Every time OSU agrees to a bit of a different style the school takes in millions upon millions of dollars from new sales.

It was used briefly in the European theater as well but was discontinued over fears of confusion with German troops wearing camo patterns.

Either way I'd be willing to bet that the chosen pattern doesn't have anything in common with the duck pattern used in WWII.

If they don't bastardize it, that 1943 uni looks pretty sick. I would like that with the long sleeves. Unfortunately, this is Nike...

If Nike really wanted to honor "Fallen Heroes", the company would donate any and all proceeds from the special uniform sales to various veteran foundations.

But that wouldn't make Nike money.

That's not a gimmick, that's a team tradition started by one coach that endures over generations.

Gimmicks are money grabbing stunts that rely on flashy wildness that lose all of their sizzle within a year or two, if they had any in the first place.

Gimmicks are why Oregon has to change their uniform every few years.
Tradition is why most traditional powerhouses make few changes over the decades to their uniforms.

Don't get me wrong, I love my BUCKEYES football, but i think that until we get back to basics in the BUSINESS of college football these things will continue to happen. Every time OSU agrees to a bit of a different style the school takes in millions upon millions of dollars from new sales.

They would make even more money making actual throwbacks that would be resold for decades, particularly with custom numbers and the ability to add name decals to honor legends.

If they continue this parade, the pro combat unis will be undesirable within a few years when the next bit of randomness comes out of Nike's sad excuse of a design department.

Agreed with JWins. I would've bought the "throwback" jersey last year if it were a throwback. I know plenty who feel the same way.

I think this annual third jersey thing has got to go. If we have a third jersey, we should just have one tastefully made third jersey (that is perhaps a throwback) that we keep season after season.

Totally agree...the gray, rounded, numerals would look tight on the plain scarlet...no sleeve stripes needed for that design.

Umm no.

But I did work with the MCUB on a study for a potential change in patterns the early 90's (this was prior to the MCCUUs).

...and looking at the wiki page I can see at least one error off the bat (at the minimum troops from 2nd ID were also issued the utilities). :p

That's not happening, as long as some people are working with Ohio State.

The "one-time thing" is going to be an annual thing with the uniforms. I'd actually be surprised if Ohio State, Alabama and Florida didn't have special uniforms at least one game a season from now on.
