My Dad went and saw him pitch against the Sarasota Reds a few weeks ago. He got ROCKED for (I think) 7 runs in the first two innings. There were not many people in the stands (maybe 300) and he was getting heckled by a few people but you could hear it all over the park. I guess it was really quiet and someone yelled "SEND IN RUDY!" and then everytime the Reds scored a run off of him these three guys would sing the Notre Dame fight song.

I think you mean "Walton and Lanier". Laimbeer wasn't yet in the NBA when Airplane was made, and Russell hadn't been playing for about 10 years (he retired before Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar/Murdock entered the NBA.
