Jeff Samardzija update

Overrated shitty Cubbie pitchers :slappy:... You do realize that they have one of the best starting staffs in the National League, right?
To comment on the original premise of this thread, there are reasons for those stats...
1.) This is his first full season in baseball. It takes time to adjust to that day in and day out...
2.) The Cubs have requested that Jeff throw a majority of change-ups and curveballs in order to work on solidifying those pitches... His fastball is his best pitch, and he's only throwing it 30% of the time...
3.) The Florida State League is a notoriously hitter friendly league. Pitchers generally fare worse than hitters down there.
Jeff's problem now is that, due to the factors listed above, he is losing confidence and that has hurt his effectiveness. He's been moved to the pen (where he's pitched very well) in order to build up his confidence again. I hope this can add some perspective to the situation instead of bashing a guy for seeing his stats...

Well, I was referring to Prior and Wood, but now that you mention it. Their 3.80 starting team era isn't bad, but I'd hardly call it one of the best. Maybe top 5 or 6 in the NL. Don't get too excited about Ted Lilly either. Call me when he finishes the season with a sub 4 era. Same with Marquis. Your best pitcher has an era near 5. I'll give you Hill and Z, but the rest suck.

Spin it any way you want but a 10 Mil bonus for a guy that has 22k in 60 innings is a joke. His change and curve must suck. He has the lowest k% on the team (4 or more ip). They might want to let him throw the heater a little more.

No matter how his baseball career works out JS has performed at a level in 2 sports that most of us would dream of....

You need to bag on Lilly the day he pitches more often... 8 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's, and a W... I'll PM you each time his spot in the rotation comes up...

The Plain Dealer

Rewrite, please: When the Cubs put Jeff Samardzija, who signed a five-year, $10 million contract over the winter, in the bullpen at Class A Dayton, he was not happy.

His June 7 blog entry said: "I didn't win a game as a starter in April and May, so the Cubs kicked me into the Daytona bullpen to work on some things. The Cubs think it's the best thing right now. I cannot lie: I want to be a starter, so I am not too crazy about the move."

The Cubs weren't crazy about their millionaire blogger and Samardzija did some editing. Instead of being "kicked into the bullpen," his blog now reads, "I was put into the Daytona bullpen to work on some things." Instead of saying he wasn't "too crazy" about the move, the blog now reads, "I want to be a starter, so I am going to do whatever it takes to get back to being a starter."

Daytona Cubs (Draft Daddy's take)
Former Notre Dame All-American wide receiver Jeff Samardzija won a game for the Dayton Cubs (A) last night, improving his season record to 3-6. His E.R.A. is a very mediocre 4.75 and he's only struck out 37 batters in 96 innings.
DD.com Comment: Samardzija would have to return his bonus and much of his remaining $10 million if he returns to football. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see the complete terms of the Sharks' Baseball Contract.
