Jeff Samardzija update

Report on Samardzija's performances since his call-up to AA Tennessee...

Jeff Samardzija and two relievers combined on a five-hitter as host Tennessee defeated West Tenn, 5-2, on Sunday.
Samardzija (2-0) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over 6 1/3 frames. He has won both of his starts with the Smokies (27-23) after going 3-8 in 24 games with Class A Advanced Daytona. In his first start at AA, Samardzija pitched six innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and two walks while striking out two in earning the win.

Samardzija pitched in relief for the Cubs yesterday. He got scored on and lost the 2-1 lead, but his stuff was filthy. He was throwing 97-98 mph with some real movement on a tailing fastball.

He could really help the Cubs this year.

While I did chuckle at his blowing the lead in the loss the other day, you could still tell he has absolutely filthy stuff. He was just feeling the pressure and I think it was easily noticable his nerves got the better of him(mainly on the pitchout that he threw against the backstop).

But last night they threw him back out there and he made 3 batters look absolutely clueless on strikeouts.

Neither batter hit the ball hard off of him... He was up in the zone, a result of his nerves like you mentioned as well...
