I think the most impressive thing to me about the players that JT and staff are getting right now is that a very good majority stand a chance to garner playing time next year. We have a very strong team coming back but from the list of players verballed in January you have to believe that Rose, Johnson, Dublin, and Olson are very, very strong candidates to compete on a team that will be ranked in the top 5. Throw in Gant at Safety or Special teams and Miller at depth for TE. I really think the only one that may be very strongly headed for a redshirt is Browning, mainly due to our depth. I am just so impressed with JT and staff's ability not to only finish strong but so greatly improve our team needs. What a January and it still has 2 weeks.

The only one out of that group I see right now seeing the field in any certainty is Rose, and that's because of Williams and Worthington having to work back from their knee injuries. Johnson may see special teams action, but being behind d'Andrea and Hoobler at MLB I doubt he's sees time at MLB. Dublin probably wont play because I'd guess the staff would want to redshirt one of the incoming DEs. With Frost and Smith at TE, Miller will probably redshirt. Our OL may be too deep for Browning to crack right now. Gant will most likely get to play on special teams, but I'm not sure he'll get PT at safety with all the DBs we have. Olson himself sad he may redshirt, and that he's OK with that...we have White and Johnson at FB (and don't forget our wrestler James Aston from Texas).

Agreed Mili, but don't forget that we get Rory Nicol back at TE next year too...

What an unbelievable flurry - 7 recruits in 11 days!! The best thing is that all fit positions of need. I have to say that Rose & Olson are the most exciting to me out of that group. I don't get to see much HS football, but Rose absolutely could not be blocked in the freakin' AA game. And Olson's vid looks awesome - I loved Jamar Martin, and have been pining for the same type of player.

This recruiting season takes me back to fall of 2002, watching the Texas Tech game, our friend #13 was going for his 2nd TD, and I think it was Mussburger that said "and look out, because the Buckeyes have one of those backs!". We know how that story ended.....Is it September yet?

I believe it was that same game where on the opening kickoff a young linebacker from a highly touted recruiting class named Bobby Carpenter flew down the field and made a great solo tackle to start a National Championship run...is it September yet, indeed? :osu:

I think it's most likely that Browning and Connor Smith redshirt. Most lineman need that year, and Connor definitely needs time to learn pass blocking skills, watch out whn he does though!

It's been fun seeing one or two new commits every time I log on. :) The opinion that Rose is most likely to see early playing time out of the January group is a pretty good assessment -- depth is thin there with injuries, and he seems to have the physical tools to get started quickly.

Are any of these guys enrolling early?

We could have all but one scholarship verballed two weeks before NLOID, but Tressel would still get ripped as a "non-closer" by the some of these yayhoos if he didn't get that one final commit on NLOID.

They can say what they want, but 50-13, 4-1 vs. scUM, 4-1 in bowls(3-0 BCS), 2 Big Ten titles and a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP says otherwise to me.

We are embarking on another golden age of Buckeye football, and Coach Tressel is responsible.

I'm most impressed by the demographics and the geography of this haul. I mean - you can look in every direction now and find a Buckeye. From that list, there are seven recruits, and they hail from six different states.

  • Tressel continues to pretty much get who he wants in Ohio.
  • He has maintained OSU's strong ties in Florida.
  • He had pulled a player from "the South". (For the purposes of this discussion the South does not include Florida.) It cannot be understated just how difficult is getting a southern recruit out of that region, especially when going head-to-head against southern schools.
  • He is building a presence in PA and CA. How many programs can seriously say they have a significant recruiting presence in four (OH, FL, PA, CA) of the top six (+ TX, LA) talent-producing states?
  • Glenville - the tradition continues...
  • Plus, he's started stealing some kids from that state up north.

Lets not forget the impending presence we are starting to have in Georgia...Georgia is right there in that second group of states w/ Ohio and Penn in producing top talent!

historically speaking-half the kids will play, half will redshirt
