I mean, if your entire goal is to not throw a pick-six in that position, a throw out of bounds is a sound strategy.

Not in the same zip code. A couple things just from today...
- Runs a fake field goal the drive after a fake punt early on in the game while up 3-0. That was a chip shot FG and a sure 3 points, instead he has his holder pitch it to a slow kicker to try to run it in.
- With the game on the line, 4th & 2, calls an over the shoulder fade (I think that's what it was supposed to be?) about 15 yards downfield attempted for a WR who has 1 catch on the season and the pass flutters about 7 feet out of bounds.
That's just in this game. The fske FG was big because on that last drive they are down 4 instead of just 3 and are forced to have to drive the field for a TD instead of at lesst being able to play for a FG to send it to OT. That of course resulted in the ill-conceived 4th down pass out of bounds. That fake field goal was one of the most boneheaded decisions I've seen in a long time. They already have a lead, at home, early in the game against a very beatable opponent. You don't do that shit. You take the points.
Their play calling for 90% of the game was bizarre. He's the worst and it ain't close. Long may he reign in Rhythmic Slappy Valley.

Penn State should keep him around as an assistant coach. When the new head coach got into a tough spot, he could just ask Franklin what he would do, and then do the opposite.
