Jamel Dean (CB Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

The choices aren't simply

A) able to play (to some degree)
B) risk permanent injury, possibly horrific or life threatening

Not every medical waiver is similar to the situation with Bogard or Johnson. Sometimes guys just can't move like they should to keep up in this sport.

Dehabilitating injuries are a staple of sports, particularly those who end their careers.
I would tend to agree that sometimes guys can't get around like they need to in order to keep up or compete. In which case, it's best that they move on. But it would seem surprising to determine something like that for a kid who just enrolled. Seems like the body of kids that age oftrn heal amazingly. i'm not discounting what you are saying, but this seems pretty rare to make that determination now. Seems like his injury would have to be pretty bad.

I don't disagree. But if this is an A) scenario, it seems premature for Ohio State to disqualify him so early in his recovery.

It feels premature and would feel better if they did this next spring or in two springs.

In reality, the situation might be the same - he can move but isn't the same athlete and isn't expected to fully recover.

The pr would be better but the ethics would be identical.

Former Buckeyes EE says he's headed to Auburn
...But according to Giscombe, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Dean has since been cleared by Dr. James Andrews, the noted orthopedic surgeon.

“When we saw Dr. James Andrews in February, he said if he continued to rehab Jamel would be just fine,” Giscombe said.

'would be just fine'.. to lead a 'normal' life... or in a D1 football situation.. polar differences .. selective filtering?
I really hope the best for the kid

2015 Buckeye signee who moved on to Auburn will have to sit a year

In an interview with Florida Today columnist David Jones, Dean confirmed that he has been informed by the NCAA that he will have to sit out the 2015 season and take a redshirt instead. Dean had applied for a hardship waiver that would’ve granted him immediate eligibility but was ultimately denied.

So, Auburn posted their fall roster about a week ago, and Dean is nowhere to be found. I can only presume he has not yet received medical clearance?

Both graduate transfer Blake Countess and Darius James (who must sit out 2015) are listed. James, in particular, chose Auburn after Dean.

Isn't that basically just a fan/media roster put together with hopes, dreams, speculation, and best guesses?

I don't know if this is what @TheStoicPaisano meant, but Auburn's official roster has Countess and James. No Dean though.

I don't honk he's enrolled yet. From what I gleaned from this article he's not going to be on campus until "late summer"....?
