Jamel Dean (CB Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

If anyone thinks there's anything fishy about this, I wouldn't agree. If Urban is doing this solely to cut down the roster numbers, why would he do it to a freshman with potential from a huge pipeline state? If there's something not genuine going on, aren't there better "cut" candidates?

Best of luck to Mr. Dean. Shame on that coach for implying that he's being pushed out of the program for no good reason.

Are schools allowed to give recruits physicals before they sign their LOIs? It seems a little weird though that Dean just recently got a football physical despite being on campus for three months. If Dean's knee is so bad that the staff physicians won't clear him (assuming that's it) they've should've known so months ago....

The article says that the coach and OSU have been going back and forth since January about the issue. OSU couldn't examine him until he enrolled in January and gave him an MRI 1 week after arriving. This has been going on behind the scenes and is only just now coming out.

No idea when they can start all that stuff, but the coach is quoted in the article as saying Dean had an MRI a week after arriving and talk of his career being over started then.

I have to agree with this. It's not like Dean was a filler or someone who hasn't lived up to expectations. Not only a freshman from a huge pipeline state, but a high school program that's producing a lot of talent.

Wilkinson confirmed that, but he said Dean had a second opinion from noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Wilkinson said Andrews' opinion was that Dean needed continued rehab on his knee and should be ready to resume full activities this summer.

Now, whether that's true or not we likely won't know unless Dr. Andrews spoke out (which he won't), but it seems a little too odd to force out Dean if that was the case given, A) he's a freshman, B) his alma mater.

Not to mention he wasn't "forced" out. He was given the opportunity to accept a medical waiver, meaning fill tuition, and stay on campus. If his knees are shot, that's a lot to swallow at 18. And I'm sure he's extremely frustrated that his body betrayed him, but passing on a free ride just to maybe have the opportunity to play somewhere else doesn't seem like a well thought out plan. The idea that people are claiming he is forced out when he can stay for free is ludicrous. Urban leaves that in the doctors hands... I'm more comfortable believing they told a kid no to protect his body than yes to bolster a lineup than I am comfortable believing we ran him out to cut a scholarship.

I'm interested in this too. Also, was a medical red shirt even on the table?
Let the kid get healthy and strong for a year. Then four more years to compete?
Gotta redshirt first then have a medical problem....

apparently OSUs doctors saw enough to say this is something we dont want to touch with a 10 ft pool... makes me wonder

The fulcrum piece of info is Dr James Andrews
Does not seem whatever Andrews said was rcvd the same way by Dean and OSU
and there is zero doubt Andrews and OSU medicals speak because he fixed Braxton
