Jameis Winston (QB Browns)

Jameis Winston’s dad says two more years at Florida State

The odds are pretty good Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will have a rather successful 2014 college football season. With success this fall will likely come increased incentive to skip on the final two years of eligibility at Florida State and jump to the NFL, if the draft experts feel strongly enough about Winston’s pro potential this season. Is there a chance Winston will put any NFL plans on hold and return to Florida State in 2015 (not to mention 2016)? Absolutely, according to his father.

“We want Jameis to succeed with one more year in baseball and two more years in football,” Antonor Winston said in a story published by Al.com. “We’ve never strayed from our plan that he is going to be in college until he gets that degree.”

The elder Winston clarified his son intends to play three football seasons at Florida State, which would suggest he will return in 2015 and potentially leave for the NFL with one year of eligibility remaining. This also echoes previous statements by the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner.

We probably shouldn't throw rocks at that particular glass house.

I'm not laughing at it from a "my school is better than yours" stand point. All big time schools jam the majority of athletes through a dumb jock major.

I'm laughing at dumb ass dad apparently either A) willing to put off multiple millions in the form of a professional sports contract (pick a sport) so famous Jameis can get that coveted dumb ass jock degree from a fucking disgrace of an academic institution or B) thinking we are all dumb enough to think he's actually even going to said dumb ass jock classes and doing the work himself or C) all of the above.

Kind of like me telling you all I'm after Ms Alba for her cooking.

Only reason Jameis stays at FSU through the duration of all his eligibility is so the Tallahassee PD can babysit him, and to postpone the inevitable implosion when he scores a 6 on the Wonderlic and bombs out of the NFL in three seasons.

Only reason Jameis stays at FSU through the duration of all his eligibility is so the Tallahassee PD can babysit him, and to postpone the inevitable implosion when he scores a 6 on the Wonderlic and bombs out of the NFL in three seasons.

Six may be way too generous, he could challenge the record low of 4 held by Darren Davis (Iowa State) and Morris Claiborne (LSU).

Darren Davis had an above-average college career. During his senior year, he led the Big 12 in rushing yards (1,388) and also rushed for 14 touchdowns.
Davis' eventual score of four on the Wonderlic would hinder his dreams of playing in the NFL. Davis would go on to play four seasons in the CFL before retiring for good.

Morris Claiborne was widely recognized as the best defensive back in last year's Draft. His Wonderlic score of four would normally drop him right out of the first round, but Claiborne is an exception.
Claiborne was diagnosed with a learning disability, specifically in the reading department. The cornerback from LSU would go on to be drafted by the Cowboys with the sixth overall pick.
While he didn't play like a sixth overall pick last year, Claiborne still had a solid rookie season that he will surely build off of this year.
