One bit I'd point out that 11w seems to have missed: Cornwell was hired while Winston was still playing at FSU. So how/who he's getting checks from isn't clear - but it very well may not be Winston/family.

This isn't surprising. So, Winston is now saying that he didn't just "forget" to pay for the crab legs, or that he just stole them, he was getting free food other times from Publix because an employee said "take what you want, I have you covered." So, it goes beyond stealing and into the realm of accepting benefits because of his position as a athlete at Florida State, which would have been worse in the NCAA's eyes. Jimbo's reponse? He's a good kid, we had no idea this was happening, we checked with Publix before and they said nothing about this.

Did anybody think this was not what actually happened? I thought we all knew he was just getting free shit so they copped to theft, because the NCAA doesn't care about that as long as you don't get a free meal.

Not to split hairs here..... but in that instance, the issue at hand was that they were trading rings/trophies/jerseys/etc for tats - not getting them for free......
Don't get me wrong, I'm not naive - I realize that every big-name college athlete has many, many opportunities to accept hook-ups.
Regardless of whether Winston acted alone, or was part of some widespread, seafood smuggling cartel, it was theft and Winston's involvement makes him look bad. Herby defending it also makes him look bad.
That said, I realize that $32 worth of frozen crab legs is not really that big of a deal and Jameis doesn't really deserve to be in jail for it - it's not like he raped anyone or anything.

Well...given some of his other antics, complete stupidity was in his wheelhouse. I kinda figured at the beginning he was getting food underneath the table, it always seemed more likely given that he was an athlete, but I also guessed it wasn't unlikely that he just walked out and forgot to pay cause he's Jameis.
