JaMarcus Russell (Thread Of Obesity and Codeine)

It still seems awfully weird that police show up and bust someone at HOME with cough syrup.. doesn't seem to be an offense that needed to be dealt with to protect the public

Can't wait till they start doing this for women who don't have a prescription for Valium that they get from all their girlfriends who hand them to each other like candy

The 24-year-old former LSU star and the No. 1 draft choice in 2007 was arrested as part of an undercover narcotics investigation, said Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles. She would not say what led to his arrest. She said he did not have a prescription for the codeine.

Seems like a pitiful thing to get busted for--up there with attempting suicide with an overdose of baby aspirin.

Wonder if it's the same brew I used to be prescribed when I was five--tasted like melted cherry red-hots--loved it.

Negative, as far as the NFL goes...by the time he got there he was somewhat of a "has-been" from his college peak and a lower round pick. JaMarcus was #1 overall, and managed to piss away more God-given athleticism than maybe anyone in history with a supremely shitty attitude.

My point exactly... who gives a crap that he has a bottle of codeine syrup... Shouldn't an undercover narcotics investigation be going after a submarine built strictly to transport 10 kilotons of heroin or something? Why go after Russell and his bottle of cough syrup... who really cares?

Because they could...and the bust would make the news.

My guess is Jamarcus didn't just stroll down to the corner with a twenty in his hand looking to score. More than likely he has well connected friends who get him things for $. I'm guessing it wasn't the first time getting product from the dealer. He wasn't Nate Newton hauling pounds of weed, but I see nothing wrong with him getting busted for a controlled substance.

How so??? If he had no 'script, it is a pretty easy case to prove.

I mean, one could argue that any bust for any violation of the drug laws is "a waste of taxpayer money". I bet you that a hell of a lot more folks are now informed about purple drank than they were 24 hours ago. And hundreds of parents who bought cough syrup are now making sure their kids don't have access to what used to be just sitting unwatched in the medicine cabinet.

Unless he was distributing it why are they raiding someones house for a bottle of codeine?

I can only assume because they have a major dealer selling large quantities to rich dudes like JaMarcus, and they are trying to go up the food chain to get him and think that JaMarcus is a good candidate for them to exert presure - as his cooperation (or lack of it) might cost him millions if he does not give up somebody.

Wild ass guess. Like I say, the only other thing I can think of is the public service angle of big press on what may be a growing problem, and somebody thought that it was worth it to make this an "educational" news story.

If it was just some overzealous local prosecutor, then his resources might be better used in other manners, I agree with you flocka.

If they were trying to go up the food chain, I doubt they would arrest a high profile person who would make national news.

I doubt that the Mobile County Sheriff or D.A. has jurisdiction over South American submarines. :wink2:
