This had to be done swiftly with all the national perception that Urban left on the program. Under Days early tenure he had to set the stage for his coaching career, and this was an early defining momentWell, that didn't take long. Good.

Officially dismissed.
So we are sitting at 86 scholarships right now? Looks like Day will probably be able to avoid the awkward "you need to look elsewhere" talk.
I think it's 84 now but never 100% on that
Day had no other choice.
Online classes etc... will only happen if they are able to get a bond. The charges are pretty serious so I'm not sure how likely that is.A couple of things:
1. Whether it's Day himself or the OSU legal/PR people finally getting their shit together, the quoted action and statement below is perfect because: (a) Day handles the football program action side only by himself and as the face of the program; (2) He makes it clear that he's not prejudging criminal guilt but that he (and by implication the program) has higher standards than that; (3) He expresses concern for the accused former players, who were part of "the brotherhood" until yesterday after all, by indicating that they won't be immediately cut off from OSU-provided health and well-being assistance, and (4) Without being at all defensive, he gives an unassailable reason for not saying anything else, says that he's not going to say anything else and, in fact doesn't say anything else. Now OSU just needs to make sure that neither Gene nor Urban are allowed within a hundred miles of a microphone for a while ...
"I have dismissed Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint from our football program,” Ryan Day said in a statement. “I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations. The athletics department will make sure they both continue to have access to the health and well-being resources available to students and student-athletes. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, I will not be commenting further.”
2. I assume that both of the accused former players remain students at OSU and eligible for classes unless and until a formal process, which I assume is clearly defined and allows them to be represented by counsel or someone else, determines that they don't have that privilege anymore. Online classes only should be looking like a pretty good option for them both.
